In February — March 2026, seminars “Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women in the Process of Planning and Budgeting Public Expenses” were held in Vitebsk and Gomel.
The events were aimed at raising awareness among representatives of local executive and administrative bodies on how to take gender perspectives into account when developing regional programs and forming budgets.
The participants discussed the role of gender equality in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and national priorities, as well as the practical importance of gender budgeting for improving the efficiency of public spending and achieving sustainable socio-demographic results.
The seminar participants noted the high practical significance of the materials presented and expressed interest in further introducing gender-sensitive approaches into regional planning and budgeting processes.
Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women in the process of planning and allocating public resources allows for more accurate consideration of the needs of different groups of the population, increases the efficiency of using budget funds, and also contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 5, 10 and the other SDGs.
The seminars “Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women in the Process of Planning and Budgeting Public Expenses” were organized with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus as part of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs” with financial support from the Russian Federation.
