General Information
In September 2015, UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030). An integral part of the 2030 Agenda are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 subordinate targets to be achieved by 2030.
Progress towards achieving the Goals will be monitored and tracked using a set of global indicators (indicators) for achieving the SDGs. The adoption of the 2030 Agenda required all states to revise and concretize national plans and mechanisms for achieving sustainable development of society, taking into account the SDGs.
The Republic of Belarus is committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and has already taken a number of important steps to implement it at the national level. In order to coordinate activities on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda by the Republic of Belarus, an architecture for managing the process of achieving the SDGs has been formed, which includes:
- National coordinator for the achievement of the SDGs;
- Council for Sustainable Development;
- Group of the National Assembly for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus (Parliamentary Group for Sustainable Development);
- Regional groups for sustainable development;
- Partner group for sustainable development;
- Public Council for the Formation and Monitoring of Sustainable Development Strategies;
- Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Council for Sustainable Development (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus);
- Group for the coordination of media work to promote the SDGs;
- Youth Ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Secretariat of the National Coordinator and the Council for Sustainable Development is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Monitoring of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus is carried out by the National Statistical Committee on national indicators of the SDG achievement.
