Аn ecological company to restore order on land starts in Belarus

On March 1, 2023, the ecological cоmpany «Peaceful creative work for the benefit of a clean and green country!» was launched in Belarus, initiated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus. The company includes carrying out activities to restore order on the ground, landscaping and gardening of settlements, which will be held until mid-April.

A number of control and analytical measures are currently being carried out. Particular attention is paid to the condition of territories along railways, right of way, roadside lanes, stopping points along republican and local roads, publicly accessible territories of settlements, garden associations, garage cooperatives, agricultural enterprises and organizations, territories of the state forest fund. Compliance with municipal waste management schemes, the condition of container sites, and the availability of containers for separate collection of waste are being checked.

Conducting an ecological company «Peaceful creative work for the benefit of a clean and green country!» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 11, 13, 15 and other SDGs.

On March 6, 2023, a press conference will be held in Minsk on the topic: «Territory of a Sustainable Future: Dialogue Platforms and Socially Beneficial Projects».

The press-conference will be attended by representatives of ministries, the Coordinating Center «Education for Sustainable Development» BSP U.M. Tanka, Youth Ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the event, the participants will discuss the actions taken in Belarus to implement the SDGs, the interaction of departments, organizations and businesses with the National SDG Coordinator, the role of SDG youth ambassadors in the youth policy of the Republic of Belarus, socially useful projects planned for implementation in 2023 and other issues.

The holding of the Press Conference will make an important contribution to the promotion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

From February 21 to March 20, 2023, the Civil Protection University of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus is holding a competition «Forming a culture of life safety in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals».

To participate in the competition, full-time students of higher education institutions must prepare an essay, video or poster presentation on one of the following thematic areas:

  • «Demographic security»;
  • «Healthy lifestyle»;
  • «Environment protection»;
  • «Safety and resilience of modern cities»;
  • «Energy Security of the Country».

The competition «Formation of a culture of life safety in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals» is aimed at popularizing the Sustainable Development Goals among young people, creating active actions to make a personal contribution to their achievement, as well as creating conditions for the dissemination of positive experience in the formation of a culture of life safety.

On March 1, 2023, a meeting of the National Council on Gender Policy under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, ministries, regional executive committees, the Minsk City Executive Committee, the National Center for Legislation and Legal Research, the Federation of Trade Unions, NGO «the Belarusian Union of Women».

During the meeting, the draft ninth periodic report of the Republic of Belarus on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was considered and approved. The draft report contains information on legislative, organizational, administrative and other measures taken in the Republic of Belarus to implement the provisions of the Convention for the period from 2016 to 2022.

Ensuring gender equality in various spheres of society’s life makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 5, 10 and other SDGs.

A sociological research to determine the stigmatization index of people living with HIV was conducted in Belarus. The research examined the experience of protecting rights, stigmatization and discrimination from the social environment and the professional environment, disclosing a positive HIV-status, interacting with health care institutions, people living with HIV, including representatives of population groups that are at greater risk of acquiring a positive HIV-status.

The research was based on 754 interviews with people living with HIV. 21.4% of respondents have experienced discrimination and stigmatization from others for reasons related to their HIV-status in the past 12 months, and 49.2% have experienced it before. 38.5% of respondents delayed or did not undergo HIV-treatment for fear of condemnation from the outside social circle.

Combating stigma and discrimination against people with a positive HIV-status makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 10, 16 and other SDGs.

The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus adopted Resolution dated February 23, 2023 №146 «On normative financing of medical care expenses on an experimental basis».

The regulatory legal act provides for the holding in 2023 of an experiment on planning the consolidated budget of the Grodno region, based on the use of the basic rate of expenditure per patient in the provision of medical care in public health organizations that are subordinate to the main health department of the Grodno regional executive committee and financed from the budget, in stationary conditions in relation to clinical-costly groups. The document also approved the Regulations, which established the procedure for planning these budget expenditures.

The State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus has developed a roadmap to implement the seven directions of the updated Standardization Development Strategy of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2030. The document reflects indicators of achievement of goals, expected result, type of document, executors, deadline. Also, annual detailed action plans for the implementation of the roadmap will be developed, taking into account the indicators achieved in the previous year. An action plan for 2023 has now been prepared.

The implementation of the roadmap will help improve the efficiency of the standardization mechanism, which will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 9, 16 and other SDGs.

In Belarus, the number of electric houses is growing in all regions. It is planned that about 2 million sq.m. will be built in 2021-2025. electrified apartment buildings. In 2021-2022, 666 thousand sq.m. have already been built and put into operation. Also in the country, work is underway to transfer individual housing stock to the use of electricity for heating and hot water supply. In 2022, 19,000 citizens’ applications for the issuance of technical conditions were satisfied.

The use of electrical energy in housing construction contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and other SDGs.

A comprehensive forecast of the scientific and technological progress of the country for 2026-2030 and for the period up to 2045 will be developed in the Republic of Belarus. The new forecast will consider 15 sectors of the economy. Based on the developed forecast, a list of priorities for scientific, scientific, technical and innovative activities and a project guide will be formed – a rating of the most promising and effective projects (research, development, innovation, investment).

The development of a comprehensive forecast of scientific and technological progress for the medium and long term will make an important contribution to the development of the country’s economy and the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 9 and other SDGs.

A review of the functioning of the agri-food sector from 2010 to 2021 was carried out in Belarus. Based on the experience of different countries, a list of recommendations has been prepared in three areas: product logistics, small business, specialized education in the field of agriculture.
