SDG 1 Youth Ambassador wins the International Youth Online Science and Science Fiction Competition «Horizon 2100»

SDG 1 Youth Ambassador «No poverty» Ekaterina Andrukevich took part in the International Youth Online Science and Science Fiction Competition «Horizon 2100», aimed at generating innovative ideas, scientific hypotheses, fantastic ideas, predictive scenarios for the future by 2100 by young people. Her scientific work «From the use of board games in education to full-fledged game-based learning. How will the view of education change in the 21st century?» was awarded a 1st degree diploma. In total, more than 1,200 students, schoolchildren and experts from 63 countries of the world took part in the competition.

Also, the Youth Ambassador took part in the Interdisciplinary Expert Foresight Session as part of the International Youth Forum «World 2100: Global Trends and the Future through the Eyes of the Young». Young people and experts, grouped into several research groups, in the Foresight mode carried out reasonable forecasts of probable future scenarios and a creative search for its models in such areas as the Man of the Future, the Future of Society, the global world of the Future, the Future of Science, Future Technologies, The Future of the Economy, The Future of Environment and Sustainability, The Future of Human Habitat, and jointly modeled a holistic picture of the desired future by 2100, its specific trends, scenarios and indicators.

From 6 to 15 February 2023, the 61st session of the Commission for Social Development is being held at the UN Headquarters in New York. Speaking at the session, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Irina Kostevich, noted that Belarus withstood the test of the COVID-19 pandemic without mass layoffs and a decrease in incomes of the population. In 2020, in order to minimize the impact of the pandemic, a number of systemic measures were taken in the country, in particular, the provision of additional payments up to the minimum wage, benefits and preferences in tax and property relations, and the use of new flexible forms of employment. The measures taken have had a positive effect.

The policy of the state is aimed at preventing unemployment, preserving jobs and is systemic, comprehensive and targeted. Particular attention is paid to support for long-term unemployed citizens, youth, people with disabilities. Currently, the Belarusian labor market is characterized by a low unemployment rate of 3.5%.

In order to popularize the achievements of the state in the IT-field, as well as to promote the development of the national segment of the global Internet as an environment for promoting goods and services, professional activities, creativity, recreation, communication, the competition «TIBO Internet Award» is held annually in Belarus. The organizers of the competition are the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Information of the Republic Belarus, CJSC «Technique and Communications».

Internet resources in the following nominations are allowed to participate in the competition:

  • public administration and authorities;
  • information resource;
  • education and science;
  • for children and youth;
  • health and medicine;
  • sport;
  • tourism and rest;
  • corporate Internet resources;
  • Internet trade;
  • corporate social media accounts.

Applications are accepted until March 18, 2023. The announcement of the results of the competition will take place within the framework of the XXIX International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies «TIBO-2023», which will be held on April 18-21, 2023 in Minsk.

The competition «TIBO Internet Award» contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 9, 16 and other SDGs.

In accordance with the state program «Roads of Belarus» for 2021-2025, in 2023 it is planned to repair and reconstruct 37 bridges on roads of republican significance, 1084 km on the republican road network, 1413 km – on the local network.

In total, for 2021-2025 it is planned to accomplish:

  • current repair of 4300 km of republican highways and 7000 linear meters. m of bridges and overpasses and overhaul of 300 km of roads and 3850 linear meters. m of bridges and overpasses;
  • repair, reconstruct and build at least 7,000 km of local roads and 137 road structures.

The repair and reconstruction of road surfaces makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 11 and other SDGs.

PUE «ArmFundStroy», LLC «Refralit» and EE «Gomel State Technical University named after P.O. Sukhoi» united and organized an industrial «Cluster for the production of refractories» in the Zhlobin region,

The cluster initiative «Creation of a Cluster for the Production of Refractories» was financially supported by the international technical assistance project «Support for Local Economic Development in the Republic of Belarus» in the purchase of equipment for 3D modeling, industrial equipment for the production of refractory cement based on recycled materials, as well as training in the production of refractories for employees of cluster enterprises.

Today, the initiative has tested or put into production 10 innovative and high-tech refractory products for metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and the glass industry. Such large enterprises as the Mogilev Automobile Plant of the BelAZ Holding company, OJSC «The Belarusian Metallurgical Plant» and others have already become customers of pilot batches. The plans are to create mass production.

The implementation of the initiative «Creation of a cluster for the production of refractories» contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, 10, 11 and other SDGs.

On February 1, 2023, a mobile application «FSZN» (Android) was launched in Belarus for operational control over the payment of contributions and the length of the insurance period, developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus.

The mobile application will allow in a convenient place for the user and at any time to access the information contained on his individual personal account and the duration of the insurance period, will provide an opportunity to control his employer in terms of accrual and payment of mandatory insurance premiums for pension and social insurance.

The functioning of the mobile application «FSZN» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 16 and other SDGs.

On February 2, 2023, the results of the training business project «Entrepreneur’s brand – a personal matter, the benefit is common» were summed up.

The project was implemented from October 4, 2022 to January 20, 2023 as part of the state strategy for the development of small and medium-sized businesses «Belarus – the country of successful entrepreneurship» in order to stimulate the business initiative of citizens, improve the environment for the growth of entrepreneurial activity, and improve entrepreneurial skills.

In total, more than 100 applications were received for participation in the project, of which 15 became finalists.

Beginning businessmen, including entrepreneurs from various fields of activity – agri-ecotourism, design, accounting services, transport rental, marketing, beauty and aesthetics, photo and video shooting, organization of holidays, construction, art, handicraft, etc. – received specific recommendations on promoting the image of an entrepreneur, establishing business cooperation and other skills for developing your own business in the modern market.

The development of business initiatives of citizens in all regions of the country makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 8 and other SDGs.

February 2 is celebrated annually as World Wetland Day. In 2023, the topic of the day – «Restoration of swamps».

Belarus is actively working on the ecological rehabilitation of disturbed peatlands. At this moment:

  • rewetting of the territories «Ostrovo» in the Smorgon district and «Dokudovsky» in the Lida district of the Grodno region, «Berezovik» in the Smorgon district of the Grodno region and the Vileika district of the Minsk region, «Verechskoye» in the Gorodok district, «Servech» in the Dokshitsky district, «Zhada» in the Miory and Sharkovshchina districts of the Vitebsk region on a total area of 13,519 hectares;
  • a demonstration of approaches to the ecological rehabilitation of degrading transitional bogs in the swamp «Servech» on an area of about 70 hectares was carried out by removing trees and shrubs;
  • a mini-project was implemented to restore the natural channel on the river  «Servech». The optimal water level in the swamp was ensured in years with excessive rainfall;
  • swamping of more than 4000 hectares of degraded drained peatlands in the Gomel region was carried out, etc.

The conservation and sustainable use of wetlands makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.

From March 6 to March 10, 2023, in order to promote the ideas of gender equality among the youth, as well as to popularize the work of Belarusian artists in Belarus, a social and educational project «SHE in art and life: breaking stereotypes» will be implemented. The project was initiated by the Coordinating Center «Education for Sustainable Development» BSPU, the Republican Youth Center and the BSPU Sustainable Development Goals Volunteer Team. The project «SHE in Art and Life: Breaking Stereotypes» includes an exhibition of works by Belarusian artists, lectures, trainings, round tables and other events on the role of women in contemporary art and society.

Anyone can become a participant in the project and present their creative work. Applications for participation are accepted until February 24, 2023.

The implementation of the project «SHE in Art and Life: Breaking Stereotypes» contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 5, 10 and other SDGs.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, together with the Center for Environmental Information of the Republican Research Unitary Enterprise «BelNIC «Ecology», has prepared a consolidated register of environmental information of the state fund of data on the state of the environment and impacts on it for 2022.

The development and publication of a consolidated register is aimed at providing all potential consumers with information about the type and scope of environmental information held by its holders, and about the main conditions that determine the possibility of providing such information and access to it.

Providing relevant and reliable environmental information makes an important contribution to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs.
