Entrepreneurship Week takes place in Belarus

14-20 November 2022, Belarus hosts Entrepreneurship Week – 2022. The purpose of the Entrepreneurship Week is to draw public attention to the topic of entrepreneurship, the importance of developing business activity, and creating a favorable business climate in the country.

As part of the Entrepreneurship Week – 2022, it is planned to hold a number of business events to discuss the formation of conditions for the implementation of entrepreneurial activities, new initiatives in the field of entrepreneurship, including the development of agribusiness, social entrepreneurship. Separate events will be devoted to small business, where there will be an opportunity to get direct advice from expert practitioners, marketers, lawyers and other specialists in various areas of business development and management. All events involve free communication with specialists, investors, representatives of government agencies.

Holding the Entrepreneurship Week makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 8 and other SDGs.

On November 18, 2022, a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development was held in Minsk. During the event, participants discussed the results of the work of the Council for Sustainable Development for 2021-2022 and work plans for 2023, the implementation by the Republic of Belarus of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the presentation by the Republic of Belarus of the second Voluntary National Review at a meeting of the High-level Political Forum level on sustainable development in New York, as well as the results of an expert comprehensive assessment of financing within the framework of government programs taking into account the Sustainable Development Goals, etc.

On November 11, 2022, on the basis of the Small Business Incubator of JSC «Mogilev Agency for Regional Development», the final of the regional programming tournament «Team Hackathon Coding Fest-7» was held.

The regional programming tournament has been held in the region since 2016 and is aimed at supporting talented youth and organizing a youth start-up movement. The organizer is the Mogilev Regional Development Agency together with the Economics Committee and the Main Department for Education of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee.

In the educational part of the tournament, the children were told how to build marketing activities to promote a product on the market, how the Internet of Things helps organize modern life, as well as about board settings and programming. In total, 22 projects were submitted for participation in the tournament in 2022, 10 of them made it to the final. Two projects became absolute winners:

  • «MuseBel», authors Svetlana Kovaleva and Olga Drobyshevskaya from the Social and Humanitarian College of the Educational Establishment «Moscow State University. A.A. Kuleshov»;
  • «Tourist guide nearby», author Gaponenko Oleg from the State Educational Institution «Secondary School № 10 in Bobruisk».

The holding of the regional programming tournament «Team Hackathon Coding Fest-7» contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9 and other SDGs.

In accordance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated November 10, 2022 №760, from January 1, 2025, an automated information system will be launched in Belarus to record the accessibility of social infrastructure facilities.

The information system will make it possible to form a database of accessible social infrastructure facilities, information about which will be placed on a public cadastral map. With the help of this map, citizens who have restrictions on movement will be able to build a route «without obstacles».

Creation of an automated information system to take into account the accessibility of social infrastructure facilities to increase the mobility of people with disabilities in movement, which will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 10 and other SDGs.

On November 17, 2022, the Mogilev City Center for the Development of Small Business will hold a start-up school «The ABC of Business for Women».

During the start-school, participants will discuss the features of women’s entrepreneurship in Mogilev, ways to start a business without investment, the possibility of doing business on parental leave, and share their business experience.

Holding a start-up school «The ABC of Business for Women» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 5, 8 and other SDGs.

On November 17, 2022, the International Scientific and Technical Conference «Development of Informatization and the State System of Scientific and Technical Information» (RINTI-2022) will be held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The purpose of the conference is to analyze the state and problems of the development of informatization (digital transformation) of the economy, the social sphere, public administration and the system of scientific and technical information in the Republic of Belarus and abroad, the development of new approaches to scientific and methodological support for the development of informatization and the information society, the creation and implementation automated information support systems for scientific, scientific, technical and innovative activities.

November 13 is celebrated annually as International Day of the Blind. A number of events dedicated to this day are also held in Belarus.

More than 25 thousand people with visual impairments live in Belarus, of which 1.7 thousand are children.

In order to create favorable conditions for the life of people with visual impairments, work is being carried out in the country to create an accessible environment for them: speech informants, information plates and elevator buttons in Braille, mnemonic diagrams are installed, contrast marking of door panels and door handles is applied, tactile guide and warning tiles are laid, traffic lights with synchronous sound signals are mounted. Particular attention is paid to the social rehabilitation of people with visual impairments. In 146 territorial centers of social services for the population, social services are provided to people with visual impairments. To provide assistance in recovery and preparation for independent life, 162 departments providing day care are functioning in territorial centers. Accompanied accommodation service is available.

Creating conditions for the full participation of people with disabilities in society makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 10 and other SDGs.

Taking into account the growing demand of the real sector of the economy and the population for electrical energy and to improve the reliability of power supply, new high-voltage and distribution power lines are being modernized and built in the country and systematic work has been launched to reconstruct substations. An example of such work is the substation «Brest-Zapadnaya», which was put into operation on November 9, 2022 and improves the reliability of power supply in the central part of the city. The substation uses new equipment and modern technologies that allow remote control of switching equipment, increase the safety of substation maintenance and significantly reduce the period of emergency response. Also, since September 2022, work has been underway in Brest on the reconstruction of the substation «North-West».

In total, 11 energy projects have been implemented in Belarus over the past ten years. It is planned to implement 9 more projects in the next 3-5 years.

The creation of new energy sources and the improvement of the energy efficiency of the country makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 9 and other SDGs.

Since 2011, a specialized financial institution of the Development Bank has been operating in the Republic of Belarus, the main goal of which is to create conditions for economic growth in the country.

The most demanded area of the Development Bank’s activity is the financial support program for small and medium-sized businesses that has been implemented for many years. At the enterprises that received support under the program, the average increase in revenue amounted to about 79%, and the increase in the number of employees – more than 8.8 thousand people. Since the start of the program, support has already been provided to almost 7000 projects. Also, the Development Bank’s initiatives to support small and medium-sized businesses include venture financing, the introduction of a guarantee mechanism, crowdfunding, reengineering of administrative procedures, the formation of digital platforms, support for foreign economic activity, etc.

Today the product line includes 13 credit products, including 11 in Belarusian rubles. In 2022, the Development Bank developed new products «Import Substitution Support» and «Stabilization».

In total, over 1000 projects have already been supported in 2022 in various sectors of the country’s economy: agriculture, forestry and fisheries, businesses implementing environmental projects, women entrepreneurs, socially responsible entrepreneurship, start-ups.

Support and development of small and medium-sized enterprises makes an important contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 8 and other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.

On November 15, 2022, on World Recycling Day, the Education for Sustainable Development Coordinating Center of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank will hold an online game «Reasonable Consumption and Recycling».

The game is aimed at developing smart consumption habits, expanding the understanding of ways to reuse household items and their recycling, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in order to improve the quality of life.
