SDG 17 Youth Ambassador took part in the first youth forum on the achievement of the SDGs

On October 13-16, 2022, the first International Youth Forum of the CIS member states on the Sustainable Development Goals was held in Moscow. The Youth Ambassador of SDG 17 «Partnership for Sustainable Development» Stefania-Vitalia Vinnichek took part in the forum.

The forum was an open dialogue platform for the exchange of experience, the creation of new ideas and projects for the development and implementation of initiatives in the field of sustainable development in the CIS. The work of the forum was organized in the following areas: education and science, innovative development, social entrepreneurship, volunteering, health and well-being, environmental sustainability and responsible consumption.

During the event, SDG Youth Ambassadors, representatives of youth associations, leaders of the youth social movement, young professionals, representatives of government bodies and international agencies discussed the contribution of youth to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and shared their own experience in the field of SDGs.

Holding the International Youth Forum of the CIS Member States on the Sustainable Development Goals will make an important contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

From October 24 to October 29, 2022, the Belarusian State University hosts the international youth forum «M.I.R. – Youth. Initiative. Development». The theme of the forum in 2022: «Prospects for the development of student leadership in the conditions of modern higher education».

Within the framework of the forum, meetings with representatives of state bodies, seminars, master classes on business management, excursions will be held, during which participants will discuss the role of students in the implementation of the development strategy of a modern university, outline their vision of the role of the university in realizing the creative potential of young people, and develop self-education skills in digital environment, share their experience in implementing research and development of students.

Holding the international youth forum «M.I.R. – Youth. Initiative. Development» promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience between students from different countries, the implementation of joint youth projects, which contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 9, 17 and other SDGs.

On October 13, 2022, the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank hosted a methodological forum «Teach. Promote. Act».

The methodological forum became the final event of the Republican competition of methodological materials «Teach. Promote. Act», which was organized by the Education for Sustainable Development Coordinating Center in order to build the competencies of teachers in the field of education for sustainable development, popularize the ideas and values of sustainable development among the pedagogical community and promote the SDGs among children and youth.

The program of the methodological forum included the award ceremony for the winners of the competition and the holding of three thematic platforms: «Let’s achieve the SDGs together», «With an eye to the future», «First steps towards the SDGs».

In total, 2358 works were sent to participate in the competition in 2022. The works of the competition laureates will be posted on the project website and published in the pages of the magazine «Narodnaya Asveta».

Holding the Republican competition of methodological materials «Teach. Promote. Act» contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 and other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.

On October 20, 2022, Minsk hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference «Intellectual Property in the Modern World: Challenges of the Time and Prospects for Development», organized by the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the National Center for Intellectual Property.

In 2022, The theme of the conference is the problems of legal regulation of intellectual property, legal protection and protection of intellectual property, including in the global computer network Internet, economic and other aspects of intellectual property.

The conference was attended by representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Standing Committee of the Union State and the Eurasian Patent Organization, as well as heads of state bodies, members of Parliament, public figures and scientists.

As a result of the event, the National Center for Intellectual Property and the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property signed an Agreement on the implementation of the network track.

The International Scientific and Practical Conference «Intellectual Property in the Modern World: Challenges of the Time and Prospects for Development» contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 9 and other SDGs.

On October 18, 2022, a press conference was held in Minsk on the topic: «The climate policy of Belarus, the protection of atmospheric air and the ozone layer for the well-being of future generations».

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Institute of Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Minsk Regional Committee of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the National Research Center for Ozone Monitoring of the Belarusian State University, the Republican Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Pollution Control and Environmental Monitoring.

During the press conference, the participants summed up the results of the ongoing environmental campaigns in the country, discussed activities and developments in the field of climate policy in Belarus, considered the process of monitoring the ozonosphere, the environment and climate change in Belarus, and also assessed the country’s environmental situation and the results achieved in solving climate problems in Belarus.

The protection of atmospheric air and the ozone layer makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.

On October 20, 2022, the Head of the Main Department of Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus met with the leadership of the representative offices of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus (WHO) accredited in Belarus.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the project activities of the UN agencies in Belarus, and also considered the progress and prospects for cooperation in the implementation of projects aimed at the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The main task in the field of municipal solid waste management is to increase the level of their processing with the involvement of secondary raw materials in the economic turnover. The level of use of municipal solid waste in 2021 in Belarus amounted to 31.1% and it is planned to ensure further growth of this indicator by 2022. To this end, the country:

  • work is underway to modernize and develop the infrastructure for the collection and processing of municipal solid waste;
  • measures are being taken to introduce new methods and technologies for the use of municipal solid waste;
  • a system of separate waste collection is being introduced in the sector of individual housing development, including in rural areas;
  • construction of three regional facilities for the sorting and use of municipal solid waste for the Baranovichi, Orsha and Bobruisk service areas is underway;
  • it is planned to build a complex for the processing of municipal waste with a capacity of about 600 thousand tons per year in Minsk by 2024.

In total, by the end of 2025, Belarus plans to build and put into operation 16 regional facilities for sorting and using municipal solid waste with a total capacity of about 1.2 million tons of municipal waste per year.

Efficient waste management makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.

A draft resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus «On ensuring an accessible environment for the disabled in the housing stock» has been submitted for public discussion.

The draft proposes to approve the Rules for ensuring access and use of living quarters, ancillary premises in multi-apartment residential buildings, entrances and exits from multi-apartment residential buildings in which such residential premises are located.

The organizer of the public discussion is the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Belarus. Comments and suggestions can be expressed in a special topic on the Legal Forum or sent by e-mail to ugx@mjkx.gov.by until October 30, 2022.

From October 13 to October 27, 2022, the Belarusian Innovation Fund, together with the Minsk City Technopark, organize a series of online seminars «Business Start». The purpose of the seminars is to popularize the Republican competition of innovative projects, develop the start-up movement in the Republic of Belarus, as well as improve entrepreneurial literacy.

During the online seminars, the issues of preparing a feasibility study for an innovative project, drawing up a financial model, business planning, marketing, effective presentation, confident speech, finding financing, as well as the possibility of implementing a project on the basis of the Minsk City Technopark will be considered.

Conducting a cycle of online seminars «Business Start» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9 and other SDGs.

From October 8 to October 22, 2022, the republican voluntary action «Adnavim lyasi razam!» takes place in the Mogilev region. The Mogilev region was suffered the most as a result of hurricane events in 2022 – the region accounted for 7.5 thousand hectares of sanitary felling. During the campaign, 635 hectares of new forests are planned to be planted on the damaged areas. On the first day of the campaign to restore forest plantations, about 50 thousand seedlings were planted in the Mogilev region, almost 260 thousand throughout the region. Contact the nearest forestry institutions and forestries of the Mogilev region to take part in the campaign.

Carrying out the republican action «Adnavim lyasi razam!» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.
