Measures to regulate the spread and number of invasive species of wild animals and wild plants were discussed in Minsk

On July 20, 2022, a press conference was held in Minsk on the topic: «Influence of invasive species on the flora and fauna of Belarus. The effectiveness of the fight against them».

Representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Minsk and Vitebsk regional executive committees, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus took part in the event.

During the press conference, the participants discussed the problem of the spread of invasive species, ways of regulating the spread and number of invasive species of wild animals and wild plants, and the role of science in this process.

Regulation of the invasion of alien species of wild animals and wild plants into the natural environment makes an important contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.

In order to protect the psyche of juvenile witnesses of a crime or victims of violent acts from re-traumatization and at the same time to obtain the necessary information, a children’s survey room was opened on the basis of the forensic psychiatric examination department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for the Brest region. One of the main elements of the survey room is the Gazella one-way mirror. Also in the makeshift nursery there is a sofa, a pouffe, a bean bag chair, soft toys, books, coloring books, an easel and much more.

The functioning of the children’s survey room contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 16 and other SDGs.

Support for business incubation plays an important role in stimulating and developing local business innovation. In the Republic of Belarus, a network of 125 business support entities has been formed – business incubators and business support centers.

To improve the efficiency of business incubation in Belarus, a single information platform has been developed – the Business Support Infrastructure Map, which contains information about business support entities existing in Belarus, services, qualifications and competencies.

The development of the institution of business incubation contributes to the formation of a culture of innovative entrepreneurship, acceleration of regional economic growth and contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 8, 9, 10, 11 and other SDGs.

On July 20, 2022, a thematic seminar «Certification of organic products and their production. Trends, prospects, problems» was held on the basis of the RUE «Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Food».

During the seminar, the participants discussed the prospects for the development of organic production in the context of the Agreement on the Circulation of Organic Products, the procedure, features and practical experience of certification of organic products and their production processes in Belarus, ways to develop the organic products market and disseminate successful practices among agricultural producers, etc.

Certification of products and their production provides the consumer with objective information about the quality of products and contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 2, 12 and other SDGs.

The State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus with the participation of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the public association «Belarusian Republican Youth Union», the Belarusian Innovation Fund is holding the Republican competition of innovative projects in 2022.

Innovative projects of various stages of implementation with a commercialization strategy, corresponding to the priority areas of scientific, scientific and technical innovation activities, can take part in the competition. The competition is held in the nominations «Best Innovative Project» and «Best Youth Innovative Project».

The application for participation in the Republican competition of innovative projects must be completed before August 1, 2022.

From July 18 to July 21, 2022, in order to systematize economic knowledge and improve the level of financial literacy of high school students, the Belarusian State University is holding an online summer school «Financial Literacy of Generation Z».

Schoolchildren, lyceum students and gymnasium students of grades 8-11, as well as college students are invited to participate. The topics of the classes are modern theories of motivation, the search for financial alternatives, professions in the financial sector. Students will also learn how to develop ideas for a successful startup.

Holding the summer school «Financial Literacy of Generation Z» contributes to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 4 and other SDGs.

On July 14, 2022, a republican seminar on the effective management of municipal solid waste and secondary material resources was held in Slonim.

The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the heads of local executive and administrative bodies, specialized communal organizations.

During the seminar, the participants discussed the issues of improving the sphere of handling solid municipal waste and secondary material resources, the results of a study of the morphological, physical and chemical composition of the organic part of solid municipal waste remaining after sorting mixed waste, the positive and negative aspects of separating MSW burial sites into a separate economic structure.

Efficient waste management makes a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.

Within the framework of the Republican project «Sustainable Summer», the Youth Ambassadors of SDG 4 Anishchenko Elizaveta and SDG 17 Vinnichek Stefania-Vitalia held interactive meetings dedicated to the idea and values of sustainable development in the district profile camp «Leader».

During the meetings, the children got acquainted with environmental problems, achievements in the education system and the relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 13, 14, 15), as well as the project «Dushka», which is aimed at working with children with hearing problems.

Informing young people about the Sustainable Development Goals makes an important contribution to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The importance of diversifying the fuel and energy resources used by each country cannot be overestimated. The main components of Belarus’ energy security system are natural gas and nuclear energy. At the same time, Belarus has significant potential in the development of renewable energy sources. It is planned that the installed electric capacity of renewable energy sources will be about 700 megawatts by 2025. The share of primary energy production from renewable energy sources to the gross consumption of fuel and energy resources will reach the level of 7-8 percent. In the near future, Belarus is expected to increase the number of electricity generating facilities of renewable energy sources, including local fuels, improve the energy management system, as well as reduce the specific consumption of fuel and energy resources for the production of products (works, services), including the production of heat and electricity . Renewable energy contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and other SDGs.
