The most important priority of the current five-year plan is the creation of strong regions, the main approaches to the development of which are laid down in the draft Concept of the state policy of regional development of Belarus. The document is focused on balanced growth by reducing inter-territorial differentiation in economic development and improving the level and quality of life of the population.
In this direction, the Concept of the State Policy of Regional Development of Belarus proposes tools for urban planning and housing policies, defines policies for the development of transport, engineering, and social infrastructures. Also, based on the capabilities and competitive advantages, 6 groups of administrative-territorial units were identified with their priority areas:
It is expected that the implementation of the Concept will strengthen the economic potential of the regions, reduce inter-regional differentiation in terms of GRP per capita, increase the contribution of industrial centers to the country’s industrial production, and reduce the gap between the maximum and minimum wages in the regions.
