Issues of ensuring employment of the population were discussed in Minsk

On March 10, 2022, a press conference was held in Minsk on the topic: «State policy in the field of promoting employment of the population». The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk City and Minsk Regional Executive Committees.

During the press conference, the participants discussed topical issues of the implementation of the social policy of the state in the field of assisting unemployed citizens in finding employment, including electronic job fairs, resettlement of the unemployed and their families to a new place of residence, adaptation to the labor activity of people with disabilities, financing of employers and others

Ensuring effective employment of the population is a significant contribution to improving the standard of living of a person, reducing social inequality, as well as to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 8, 10 and other SDGs.

To ensure interaction with state bodies and consider issues that concern the business community in the Republic of Belarus, a system of specialized structures has been created – councils for the development of entrepreneurship.

The functioning of regional councils for the development of entrepreneurship will contribute to the promotion of regional entrepreneurial initiatives, as well as to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 16 and other SDGs.

In order to increase the level of legal literacy among young people, students of the Faculty of Law of the Belarusian State University launched the project «Street Law».

The idea of the project is to teach schoolchildren the basics of law through modern games containing tasks on legal topics that are maximally adapted to real processes. For example, to put together the name of a legislative document from letters, to fairly divide property in a divorce, to inspect a crime scene, etc. All tasks for games and the topics of meetings are developed by BSU law students, taking into account the age of students.

In addition, within the framework of the project, students will organize lectures and seminars on the rights, duties and responsibilities of every citizen, as well as the legislative foundations of the state.

The project contributes to the formation of civic responsibility, tolerance, the ability to successfully socialize in society, and also contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 16 and other SDGs.

The state forestry institution «Baranovichi forestry» plans to commission a plant for the production of fuel pellets in 2022. In the Brest region, pellet plants are already operating in the Pruzhany, Kobrin and Gantsevichi districts. The factories produce more than 50 thousand tons of fuel pellets per year.

Pellet production is based on the processing of low quality raw materials, making it possible to use the entire wood resource and obtain goods with the highest added value, which makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and other SDGs.

March 3rd is World Wildlife Day. The theme of the holiday in 2022 is «Restoring key species for ecosystem restoration» and was chosen to remind the need to strengthen the fight against crime against globally threatened species of wild animals and wild plants, restore their habitats and promote their sustainable use.

In the Republic of Belarus, the protection and use of wild animals and wild plants, their habitat and growth are carried out on the basis of the laws «On the Fauna» and «On the Flora».

In addition, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Environmental Protection», rare species of wild animals and wild plants are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. Currently, 303 species of wild plants and 202 species of wild animals are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. 1535 habitats of rare wild animals and 1309 habitats of rare wild plants have been transferred under protection.

Activities for the conservation of rare species, restoration of disturbed ecological systems make a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.

Belarus has created a special mobile application for independent travel along green routes «BY Guide» (Android). The leader and author of the idea was Svetlana Dolyuk, a post-graduate student of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State University.

At the moment, the online resource includes more than 300 ecological trails and cycling routes in all regions of the country. Each route contains a description, photos, a GPS track, as well as a special notation system that allows you to assess the accessibility of the object for children, pets, and people with disabilities. All routes tested by the project team are marked with a «quality mark».

In the future, it is planned to develop audio guides and include in the application a system for recognition by birdsong and animal tracks.

The implementation of the project is aimed at promoting sustainable tourism, and also contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 15 and other SDGs.

On March 2, 2022, a round table «How to improve the environmental safety of packaging» was held in Minsk.

Representatives of ministries, committees, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, concerns «Bellesbumprom» and «Belgospischeprom», mass media took part in the round table.

During the round table, topical issues of improving the quality of environmentally friendly packaging were discussed, including methods for improving the environmental friendliness of packaging, ways to create safer analogues, ways to dispose of various types of packaging, and other issues.

The design, manufacture and use of sustainable packaging makes an important contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs.

Decree of the Council of Ministers dated February 22, 2022 № 91 approved the National Strategy for Water Resources Management in the context of climate change for the period up to 2030. The strategy is aimed at improving the efficiency of water resources use to ensure sustainable economic growth of the country in a changing climate and create conditions for the conservation of water ecosystems.

The National Strategy for Water Resources Management in the Conditions of Climate Change for the period up to 2030 contains information on the assessment of the current potential of the country’s water resources, the dynamics of water use, the impact of climate change on water resources and their adaptation, goals, objectives and expected results of the implementation of the strategy, mechanisms for its implementation. Also, the document defines the action plan of the National Strategy. A total of 41 events are planned, including the development of a Concept for improving legislation on the protection and use of water in a changing climate, improving the procedure for developing technological standards for water use, creating a state water fund and other events.

It is expected that the implementation of the strategy will ensure:

  • population with centralized water supply and sanitation (sewage) systems at least 93.2% and 79.3%, respectively, by 2025, 95% and 85%, respectively, by 2030;
  • the proportion of surface water bodies that have been assigned a good and higher ecological status at least 75% by 2025, 85% by 2030;
  • index of discharge of insufficiently treated wastewater into water bodies (to the level of 2015) no more than 30% by 2025, 0% by 2030;
  • degree of implementation of integrated water resources management at least 80% by 2025, 100% by 2030;
  • the share of the area of transboundary river basins, in respect of which there are international agreements on cooperation in the field of protection and use of transboundary waters at least 78% by 2025, 100% by 2030.

The approval of the National Strategy contributes to the conservation and sustainable use of water resources, ensuring the long-term water security of the country, which will make a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 6, 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs.

In order to create conditions for the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex in the Republic of Belarus, the State Program «Agricultural Business» for 2021–2025 was approved.

In accordance with the State Program, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus is informatizing and digitalizing agriculture:

  • the information interaction of the automated information system «BELFITO» is being tested;
  • the concept of the digital platform «Precision Farming» was developed;
  • a national automated information system was created for the formation, maintenance and use of a unified register of agricultural plant varieties;
  • an information system for the regulation, identification, registration, traceability of farm animals (herds) and products of animal origin «AITS» was created, as well as functional complexes: «AITS-Traceability» and «AITS-Vetbezopasnost»;
  • information search systems «Techservice» and «Vetsnab» are used, which allow farmers to facilitate the search for spare parts for agricultural machinery and veterinary drugs.

Digital solutions help to improve the efficiency of organizations in the agricultural sector, reduce the misuse of resources, increase productivity, which makes a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 2, 9, 12 and other SDGs.

On February 24-25, 2022, in the educational institution “International State Ecological Institute named after A.D. Sakharov” of the Belarusian State University the III International Scientific and Methodological Conference «Environmental Education and Sustainable Development. Status, goals, problems and prospects» took place.

The event was attended by representatives of state and scientific organizations, committees, departments, departments and educational institutions, representatives of the education systems of the Russian Federation, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan. The participants discussed topical issues of environmental education in the context of the concept of sustainable development.

The provision of high-quality environmental education contributes to the formation of an environmental outlook and culture among students, and is also one of the components of ensuring the environmental security of the state, which makes a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 12, 13, 15 and other SDGs.
