Every year on February 2, the world celebrates International Day of Wetlands. Wetlands are as important to nature and humans as they are vulnerable. Their area is shrinking three times faster than the area of forests. Since 1970, the planet has lost 35% of all wetlands.

Great attention is paid to the conservation of swamps and the restoration of degraded and disturbed peatlands in Belarus. Belarus is one of the leaders in peatland restoration in Europe. Peat bogs occupy about 23% of the country’s territory.

In order to preserve and sustainable use of wetlands, in addition to swamping disturbed peatlands, a number of innovative natural solutions are being implemented in Belarus:

  • unique technology of sowing marsh plants;
  • controlled (winter) burning of dry vegetation;
  • introduction of technology for the sustainable use of floodplain meadows for haymaking with the collection of biomass;
  • recreating sustainable grazing food chains;
  • translocation of wild animal species.

The restoration and conservation of wetlands makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.

To stimulate entrepreneurial activity in Belarus, 20 «box solutions» have been developed. Such solutions will help entrepreneurs start their own business, as well as expand existing businesses.

Each solution consists of four thematic blocks:

  • «Business modeling» will allow you to find out what actions a novice entrepreneur needs to take to open a business, which model to choose, in what directions you can develop and expand;
  • «Jurisprudence» contains information on legal requirements, necessary documents and administrative procedures for each of the areas for which boxed solutions are prepared;
  • «Financial model» will tell you how to effectively organize the organization’s cash flow management system. It is possible to model and calculate your future expenses and income using a financial calculator that is designed for each «box solution»;
  • «Marketing» includes information about the main tools for promoting business and increasing sales efficiency.

«Box solutions» were developed by experienced entrepreneurs with practical experience in creating and developing such enterprises within the framework of the international technical assistance project «Support for Local Economic Development in the Republic of Belarus», implemented by the Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Development Program in the Republic of Belarus.

Entrepreneurship support makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 8 and other SDGs.
