Achievements of scientists were demonstrated by the Festival of Science

On 6-11 September, 2021, the Science Festival – a popular science open-air event in a live format was held in Minsk. The event was organized by the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

On 6-10 September, more than 50 sites operated in various places of the city: universities, museums, robotics schools, laboratories of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus carried out work to popularize science.

On September 11, platforms deployed in the territory of the Botanical Garden: 4 thematic lecture platforms; an exhibition of the best developments of scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, where it was possible to get acquainted with a variety of exhibits; master classes by microbiologists, sociologists, botanists, physicists and geneticists; master classes of projects Smart Minsk, StemLab, Algorithmics, Molecule, Elemento, Experimentus; Atom City platform.

The main task of the Science Festival was to show in an accessible form to the population of all ages what science is, as well as to tell about the prospects for development and outline what we should strive for.

Such events make a huge contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On September 10, 2021, the «Regional Initiatives for Local Development» fair was held in Cherikov.

The fair was organized by the Local Fund for the Development of Rural Areas in cooperation with the Cherikovsky District Executive Committee in partnership with the Bykhovsky, Klichevsky, Slavgorodsky and Krasnopolsky District Executive Committees.

The main goal of the event was to determine the priorities of regional cooperation for the new period until 2025 based on the experience of regional cooperation.

The participants of the fair, representatives of initiative groups, organizations and local authorities of Bykhovsky, Klichevsky, Krasnopolsky, Slavgorodsky, Cherikovsky districts, agreed on a vision of development, events for the near future, resources and partnerships that will form the basis of new regional projects, initiatives, as well as in the Plan of regional cooperation to increase the sustainability of development of five rural areas of the Mogilev region for the period up to 2025.

Also on the territory of the fair there was an exhibition demonstrating the results of the implementation of local and regional initiatives of five districts participating in regional cooperation in 2019-2021.

Partnership is an effective tool for sustainable development of rural areas. To achieve high results in the even development of regions, effective and coordinated actions of each individual region are required. This partnership makes a significant contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 17.

September 2, 2021 in the framework of the forum «The Way to Science» was organized a special exhibition where young researchers presented 70 new developments and technologies in various fields of science.

The purpose of the event was to improve efficiency and initiative of young scientists in research and develop leadership skills for the implementation of independent research projects.

The Forum was attended by representatives of scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, higher educational institutions, undergraduates, postgraduates, students.

Medical implants with biocompatible coatings, faceted jewelry inserts from artificially grown emeralds, functional food products, developments in the field of genetic testing, novelties of electrical engineering, a simulator for training operators of unmanned aerial complexes and other exhibits were presented at the exhibition organized as part of the forum «The Way to Science».

The holding of such events clearly demonstrates the interest and prospects of young people in our country, as well as how well they have penetrated into the problems that are involved. Creating a favorable environment for the development of the necessary skills to support innovation and science, undoubtedly, promotes technical progress, which serves as a guarantee of economic growth and sustainable development. The latest technological advances are making a major contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

On September 3, 2021, in the village of Saltanovka, Mogilev district, the third Investment Forum «Mogilev District — Territory of Opportunities» was held.

The Forum was attended by about 200 representatives of government agencies and businesses of Belarus, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the Forum was to attract investment to the region through a direct dialogue between the authorities and private business, establishing new business contacts. This format of the event gave the participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the potential of the Mogilev region, which is one of the most dynamically developing and strategically important districts of the Mogilev region.

The Investment Forum resulted in the signing of 17 protocols of intent and investment agreements worth 146 million rubles, 5 agreements on mutual cooperation and four contracts for export worth 17.9 million rubles. There were concluded agreements on attraction of investments into housing construction; as a result, the «Prestige» (IT-village) individual residential development quarter will appear. A considerable share of investments was attracted through cooperation with foreign partners: directions for the development of green technologies will be implemented. Also, emphasis was placed on the development of agribusiness.

It is important for the Republic of Belarus and its citizens to multiply the benefits of the country.

Partnership with other countries, exchange of experience, introduction of new technologies significantly affect production, international trade, investment flows, creating new opportunities and improving the well-being of the population, which contributes to economic growth and makes an important contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus 8, 9 , 11, 17 and other SDGs.

The main goal of the meeting was to summarize the work of the national architecture for managing the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, discussing plans for the future and the most important problems facing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Anatoly Isachenko, in his opening speech emphasized the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals for each individual person, despite their global nature and the importance of the unity of power and civil society.

On September 3, 2021, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Nazarov, a seminar «Development of digitalization of industrial enterprises» was held.

The seminar was attended by the heads and specialists of the departments of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Energy, the concerns Bellesbumprom, Belneftekhim and Bellegprom, the State Committee for Standardization, the State Military-Industrial Committee and administration of the Svetlogorsk region.

The purpose of the event  was to share the experience of the transition from automation to digitalization, to discuss tools to support the digital transformation of industry, as well as the specifics of introducing digitalization.

The main advantage of digitalization is the expansion of opportunities through new technologies, which increases the efficiency of the enterprise as a whole. Digital technologies allow businesses to analyze sales, inventory, production capacity and operational processes at a new level.

The digitalization of industrial enterprises makes an important contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 9, 12 and others.

On September 2, 2021, a plenary session «Path to Science» was held in the Republic of Belarus, the main goal of which was to activate the interest of young people in science and innovation.

According to the GlobalSkillsIndex report prepared by the online educational platform Coursera, in the technological category the Republic of Belarus took first place in Europe and second in the world, which indicates the giftedness of Belarusian students and young scientists, as well as the effectiveness of the knowledge transformation system built in our country into skills.

The combination of the intellectual potential of youth and a favorable environment for its implementation is a prerequisite for the innovative development of the country and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9 and others.

According to the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Cheryakov, the involvement of young people in science and innovative technologies is the main objective of the next five years. it is necessary to liberate the innovative environment for the manifestation of initiative and create motivational mechanisms that stimulate the influx of young people.

On September 3, 2021, at the Center for Labor and Social and Household Rehabilitation of Disabled People of the Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Lepel District, two labor workshops were opened, in which people with disabilities will receive professional skills: gardening and culinary.

The gardening workshop will cultivate an environmentally friendly crop for use in the culinary workshop or for sale to the public. At the culinary workshop, an inclusive cafe was organized, where visitors to the rehabilitation center, under the guidance of specialists, will learn the basics of the professions of a barista, waiter, and cook.

The creation of such workshops is an important contribution to the elimination of obstacles that prevent many people with disabilities from fully integrating into society, which is aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goals 8, 10 and others by the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 16, 2021 № 107 « About biometric documents», biometric documents are introduced in the country from September 1, 2021. There will be 8 new types of documents containing biometric data, including a citizen identification card (ID-card) and a biometric passport. The new type of documents will have a built-in microcircuit containing a photographic image, fingerprints and other personal data of the owner, as well as a digital signature.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, as of September 1, 2021, 241 applications for issuing ID-cards and 141 applications for issuing biometric passports were accepted in the country.

Modern technology and digital methods of data processing are becoming increasingly important in the modern life of society and are an integral part of the country’s development and economic growth.

The contribution of the Republic of Belarus to digitalization contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, 11 and other SDGs.
