In order to better inform potential participants of the Сontest of Pilot Initiatives on the Sustainable Development Goals, information seminars were held in all regions of Belarus in March – April 2024.
In total, more than 500 people attended the events in online and offline formats. More than 85% of the participants were women. Among the participants were representatives of regional, district, city executive committees, local Councils of Deputies, government bodies, educational institutions, health care, science, culture, social services for the population, public organizations, private and banking sectors, etc.
During the seminars, participants were familiarized with the conditions of the Сontest of Pilot Initiatives on the SDGs, potential areas and requirements for future pilot initiatives in the context of 4 SDG accelerators in the Republic of Belarus. In addition, participants were shown the process of submitting applications for the Сontest through a specially created platform sdgidea.by, as well as the main requirements of the legislation of Belarus in the field of international technical assistance, the experience of localizing the SDGs in Belarus and the functioning of the National Architecture for managing the process of achieving the SDGs were presented.
Information seminars were conducted by the United Nations Development Programme in Belarus in partnership with regional executive committees, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, the United Nations Children’s Fund in Belarus, the United Nations Population Fund in Belarus within the framework of the Joint Project “Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.

On October 29–31, 2024, the 19th International Scientific Conference «Youth in Science – 2024» will be held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
«Youth in Science» is an annual conference for young scientists, graduate students, undergraduates and students working in such areas of science as biological, medical, physical and technical, physical and mathematical, agricultural, chemical sciences, geosciences, humanities and art.
Registration for participation in the Conference is open until July 14, 2024.
Holding the International Scientific Conference «Youth in Science» contributes to the development of the scientific, technical and innovative potential of youth, international exchange of experience and contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 9 and other SDGs.

On April 26, 2024, the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated July 17, 2023 № 294-Z «On Changes to the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Environmental Protection» enteredinto force.
The new edition of the Law «On Environmental Protection» establishes the legal framework for environmental protection, environmental management, conservation and recovery of biological diversity, natural resources and objects, aimed at ensuring the right of individuals to a favorable environment and to compensation for harm caused by violation of this right.
Among the main innovations of the Law:
The implementation of the Law will help to ensure environmentally favorable conditions for the life of society and the balanced use of the country’s natural resource potential, which will make an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 15 and other SDGs.
In the village of Dolzha near Lake Sosna, the territorial center for social services for the population of the Vitebsk region is implementing a social project «Accessible Beach» for people with disabilities.
The beach will be equipped with various types of special equipment for people with musculoskeletal disorders, a separate parking lot with a wooden deck leading to the beach, railings in the water, special dry closets and a changing cabin. There is also an inclusive cafe next to the beach.
The project plans to purchase kayaks with all the equipment – helmets, vests and oars. They can also be used by people with musculoskeletal and vision impairments. It is planned to install an information stand indicating the location of important objects on the beach, duplicated in Braille.
The implementation of the social project «Accessible Beach» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 10, 11 and other SDGs.

The application «Entrant Minsk» (Windows, Android) to help graduates of the 9th or 11th grades in choosing educational options, specializations (qualifications) was developed in Minsk.
The application contains information about 19 educational institutions in Minsk, features of the admission campaign, and current professions on the labor market. Also in the application there is an opportunity to pass a career guidance test and ask a question of interest.
The application «Entrant Minsk» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8 and other SDGs.
JSC «JSSB Belarusbank» holds the annual environmental campaign «Green Treasures of Belarus» in all regional centers and Minsk.
The campaign is aimed at preserving populations of rare wild plants, uniting the efforts of all those interested in creating new ecotourism sites, as well as drawing attention to the problem of declining biodiversity.
Among the landscaped areas within the framework of the campaign «Green Treasures of Belarus»: Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, state environmental institution «Republican Landscape Reserve «Ozyory», Center for Ecology of Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin, educational institution «Gomel Regional Center for Tourism and Ecology of Children and Youth», Botanical Garden of Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov and others.
Bringing order to the earth and preserving biodiversity makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and other SDGs.

From April 23 to May 23, 2024, in order to attract students’ attention to the problem of climate change, develop an understanding of competent adaptation to these changes, and reduce the burden on the climate, the Сompetition of Environmental Initiatives «Let’s Save the Climate Together» is being held in Belarus.
The competition is organized by the educational institution «Republican Center for Ecology and Local History» in partnership with the project «Climate Education to Promote the SDGs and Advance the Climate Agenda (Climate Box)», implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Belarus.
The Competition is held in two categories:
Participants of the Competition are students of educational institutions aged 7 to 17 years. Applications must be sent to the email address otd.nipd@mail.ru.
Information about the results of the Competition will be posted on the website of the Republican Center until May 30, 2024 inclusive.
Holding the Competition «Let’s Save the Climate Together» and the implementation of environmental initiatives will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 6, 7, 12, 13, 15 and other SDGs.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection summed up the results of the republican competition to reduce emissions from motor vehicles for 2023 among business entities of various forms of ownership.
A total of 92 business entities took part in the competition. Three winners were determined in each category. Organizations were awarded the greatest number of points for having mechanical vehicles that use electricity as an energy source. The best results in reducing emissions in 2023 were achieved by:

On April 26, 2024, a business seminar «ESG-day in Grodno» was held at the business center of the FEZ «Grodnoinvest». The event was organized by FEZ «Grodnoinvest», the consulting company ASER and the rating agency BIK Ratings.
During the seminar, representatives of business, foreign companies and financial institutions, that are implementing or planning to implement ESG principles in their activities, discussed the state and prospects of the ESG agenda in Belarus, the basics of ESG transformation, the introduction of Sustainable Development Goals into the company’s strategy, the development of ESG ratings, and other questions.
The implementation of ideas of sustainable development into the activities of organizations helps to increase the economic efficiency of Belarusian enterprises and makes an important contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the Republic of Belarus.
