The Republic of Belarus has been actively involved in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for quite some time. At the same time, the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda is impossible without assessing its effectiveness, monitoring progress and promoting all processes of SDG implementation. The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus acts as the national focal point for monitoring the achievement of the SDGs in Belarus. Its tasks include coordinating the process of conducting a national assessment of readiness to report on global SDG indicators, developing a national list of indicators for monitoring the achievement of SDGs, providing a platform for discussing issues related to the collection and analysis of data on SDG indicators between government bodies (organizations) and international organizations, ensuring the quality of statistical information, etc.

To date, the Republic of Belarus has already taken a number of important steps to improve the process of collecting and analyzing statistical data on the SDGs at the regional and international levels:

  • the national list of indicators for achieving the SDGs has been created;
  • the SDG National Indicators Reporting Platform was created to monitor and disseminate country data on SDG indicators;
  • the Regional Data Platform for Sustainable Development has been developed to assess the development of each region and take measures to reduce interregional differentiation, etc.;
  • increasing the availability of data is ensured through constant interaction with agencies to adapt international methodology to national conditions, obtain disaggregated data on vulnerable groups of the population, search for innovative tools and sources of data;
  • partnerships are being established at the global, regional and local levels between government agencies, the private sector and civil society, etc.

According to an assessment of progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals conducted by the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus in 2023, about 80% of the SDG indicators show significant progress. Today, in Belarus there is not a single Goal in which progress would be less than 60%.

Belarus also maintains a high position in the global ranking of SDG achievements – 34th place among 166 countries, which is the best indicator among the CIS countries.
