Prospects for innovative development of Belarus will be discussed in Minsk

On September 28-29, 2023, the International Scientific and Practical Conference «The System «Science – Technology – Innovation»: Methodology, Experience, Prospects» will be held.

The conference program includes:

  • Current trends, strategies, models and forecasts for the development of the scientific and technical sphere;
  • Processes of technology diffusion in the «science – production» system;
  • Resources and infrastructure for innovative development;
  • Regulation of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities: experience and prospects.

The holding of the International Scientific and Practical Conference «The System «Science – Technology – Innovation»: Methodology, Experience, Prospects» contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 9 and other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.

On September 22, 2023, a meeting was held to determine the strategic prospects for sustainable development of Belarus for the period until 2040.

The meeting was attended by representatives of business, the National Bank, the Development Bank, the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, the State Committee for Science and Technology, the Scientific Research Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Economy, the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the Belarusian Institute of System Analysis.

The meeting participants discussed global trends and challenges of world development, their impact on national security, key systemic problems that determine the dynamics of the country’s development, as well as the main directions for adapting the economic model of Belarus to new challenges and threats.

The formation of the «image of the future» will be based on a number of current trends. They affect such strategic industries as microelectronics, machine tool manufacturing, medicine and pharmaceuticals, demography, education and training.

The development of the National Sustainable Development Strategy until 2040 will make an important contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

From September 25 to 30, 2023, as part of an information hour, the Biggest Lesson about the Sustainable Development Goals will be held in general secondary education institutions. The lesson is aimed at introducing schoolchildren to the Sustainable Development Goals, developing the significance of the SDGs in solving global problems of our time, and understanding the role of every inhabitant of the planet in the processes of implementing the ideas and principles of sustainable development.

Conducting the Biggest Lesson on the SDGs will contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the Republic of Belarus.

On the basis of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School №1 of Vetka named after A.A. Gromyko», a project for schoolchildren «PROF-navigator» was launched. It is designed to help 9th and 11th graders make an informed choice of their future profession.

The project includes a number of events aimed at developing life values, teaching financial literacy, and studying educational institutions and enterprises in Belarus. Meetings with representatives of various professions will also be organized for schoolchildren.

The project is already finding a response in other educational institutions in the country. Schools in Korma, Mozyr, Svetlogorsk, and Rogachev became interested in him.

The implementation of the PROF-navigator project will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8 and other SDGs.

Every year on October 1, Belarus celebrates the Day of Older People. This year, the country is holding a republican campaign «Respect, Care, Responsibility», aimed at attracting public attention to issues of supporting older citizens.

Events dedicated to this event will take place in the country until the end of October 2023. These include educational and preventive events, events in the fields of culture and sports, «silver» job fairs, on-site events of mobile teams of TCSON, dialogue platforms, round tables, open days and other events.

Creating conditions for the participation of older people in national life contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On September 20, 2023, the Belarusian delegation led by the National Coordinator for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals Valery Belsky met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Jinhua.

During the meeting, the Belarusian parliamentary delegation presented the successes of the Republic of Belarus in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, information about the nature and level of damage caused to the Republic of Belarus as a result of sanctions pressure and the Chernobyl disaster, as well as the efforts that Belarus is making to overcome them. In turn, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs noted the impressive progress of Belarus in implementing the 2030 Agenda and the country’s unique experience in coordinating the SDGs.

European Mobility Week takes place annually from 16 to 22 September. The mobility week ends with World Car Free Day, which this year is celebrated under the slogan «Save Energy». This motto draws public attention to pollutant emissions from mobile sources, as well as how much resources can be saved through sustainable urban mobility.

On this day, free travel for drivers will be provided in certain regions of Belarus. This action will be supported by Minsk, Soligorsk, Grodno, Volkovysk, Voronovo, Slonim, Gomel, Baranovichi, Pinsk and 8 other districts of Belarus. On World Car Free Day, bicycles and scooters will be rented, bike rides, quests, master classes, and competitions will be organized.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, holding World Car Free Day can save 100–200 tons of carbon emissions per year.

Reducing air emissions makes an important contribution to the Republic of Belarus achieving Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and other SDGs.

Every year in Belarus, measures are implemented to improve, plant trees and maintain in proper condition the territories of regions, districts, and cities of Belarus. As part of the republican plan to restore order on land for 2023, 821 courtyard areas have already been landscaped in Minsk, which is 98.2% of the annual plan.

Among the work performed: comprehensive landscaping of 138 courtyards, repair of 383.15 thousand square meters of asphalt pavements, repair of 87.86 thousand square meters of pedestrian paths, repair of over 1 thousand sports and children’s playgrounds, 496 containers were repaired and installed waste collection sites, 4.48 thousand trees and 27 thousand shrubs were planted, and more than 40 hectares of lawns were landscaped.

The implementation of measures to improve and restore order on earth contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 11, 12, 13, 15 and other SDGs.

On September 23, 2023, as part of the global #ACT4SDGS week, the Youth Forum «Youth for Sustainable Development» will be held in Minsk.

The Forum program includes the Policy Lab «Development of a common position of Belarusian youth on the SDGs for presentation at international events», as well as discussions on topics such as climate change, youth participation in decision-making, SDGs in Belarus, human rights, education for sustainable development.

Involving youth in achieving the SDGs makes an important contribution to the implementation of the 2023 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the Republic of Belarus.
