Belarus creates conditions to support citizens in the implementation of business initiatives

On August 18, 2023, the conference «Effective Management. Formation of the image of Belarus through the development of human resources» was held in Brest.

During the conference, representatives of state bodies, public associations, and the business community discussed the promotion and development of women’s entrepreneurship, as well as ways to further stimulate the business activity of citizens.

In order to create a system of continuous support for small and medium-sized businesses in Belarus, there is a developed network of support infrastructure. 97 business support centers and 19 small business incubators. The SME support infrastructure network is represented not only in the capital, but also covers all regions of the country.

Also, in Belarus, work is underway to develop an interactive map of business support infrastructure entities, which will provide all the information about the business support infrastructure entities existing in the country.

Support for entrepreneurial initiatives of citizens makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 8 and other SDGs.

In the Republic of Belarus, the National Report «On the Situation of Youth in the Republic of Belarus in 2022» has been prepared and published.

The report provides information on the demographic structure and health of the younger generation, analyzes risky behavior, provides the main indicators in the field of education, reveals the involvement and participation of young people in scientific and innovative activities, as well as socio-political processes. Particular attention is paid to the socio-economic situation of young people in the labor market, work with talented and gifted youth, and the development of youth entrepreneurship.

As part of the state program «Health of the people and demographic security» for 2021-2025, families raising three or more minor children will be provided with financial support in preparation for the new academic year – for the purchase of clothes, shoes, stationery. Support will be provided to more than 240 thousand schoolchildren from 115 thousand large families.

The amount of assistance will be 30% of the basic subsistence minimum for each student in the family. In total, more than 26 million rubles are planned for this type of support.

Also, in order to support families in preparing for school, charity events, fairs organized by territorial centers of social services for the population, charitable foundations and public associations are held throughout the country.

The provision of state support to prepare children for the school year contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 10 and other SDGs.

From the beginning of June to the end of August 2023, the Sustainable Summer project is being implemented.

The project includes holding a complex of intensives «Sustainable Summer – Sustainable Future with SDGs» on the basis of the specialized camp «Leader» in the Brest region, the children’s health camp «Forest Fairy Tale» in the Minsk region, the children’s health camp «Dubrava» in the Minsk region. Intensives are held in 3 stages:

  • acquaintance with the SDGs by interactive methods (games «Gex», exercises «Balloon», etc.);
  • the choice by each student of the SDGs and the identification of urgent problems for its achievement;
  • generation of ideas and concepts to solve problematic issues in achieving the selected SDG.

The implementation of the Sustainable Summer project makes an important contribution to popularizing the ideas and values of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As of the beginning of August 2023, over 402 thousand tons of secondary material resources (SMR) were procured in the Republic of Belarus. On average, each resident of the republic sorted and handed over for processing 43.5 kg of secondary raw materials.

In particular, the number of collected SMRs was distributed as follows:

  • paper and cardboard waste – 200,2 thousand tons;
  • glass waste – 96,8 thousand tons;
  • polymer waste – 55,1 thousand tons;
  • worn tires – 30,4 thousand tons;
  • used oils – 9,6 thousand tons;
  • waste electrical and electronic equipment – 10,7 thousand tons.

The efficient use of waste makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.

From August 15 to November 15, 2023, the contest of original business ideas «EnCobi» will be held in Belarus for the first time to identify original business ideas of young and talented specialists, as well as to promote their investment and financial support.

The organizers of the competition are the science and technology park LLC «InKata», Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, Bobruisk City Executive Committee, LLC «Remago», Mogilev Regional Development Agency with the support of the State Committee for Science and Technology, Belarusian Innovation Fund, Belagroprombank, Development Bank, Sberbank Bank and the Company for the development of the industrial park «Great Stone».

The main nominations of the contest: «Best business idea» and «Best youth business idea».

Legal entities (regardless of the form of ownership), individuals, individual entrepreneurs can take part in the contest by filling out the application. Applications will be accepted until October 30, 2023. The final of the contest will be held on November 16, 2023 in Bobruisk.

The contest of original business ideas «EnCobi» will contribute to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9 and other SDGs.

From August 22 to August 26, 2023, an ecological week will be held in Belarus.

The Ecological Week includes the II International Specialized Exhibition «ECOLOGY EXPO – 2023» in Minsk and the XVII Republican Ecological Forum in Stolin.

The main topics for discussion will be:

  • reducing emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, combating climate change;
  • green, circular economy;
  • recycling;
  • ecological tourism;
  • development of eco-friendly food packaging;
  • introduction of advanced technologies to reduce the use of natural resources.

The Forum will host a conference on intersectoral cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Holding an ecological week will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs.

On August 2, 2023, a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development was held in Minsk. During the event, participants got acquainted with the results of the UN’s work in the Republic of Belarus for 2022 and discussed the development of a green and inclusive economy, digital transformation and social innovation, gender equality in society and orientation towards future generations. Members of the Council for Sustainable Development also discussed the issue of Belarus’ preparation for the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, which will be held on September 18 and 19, 2023 at UN Headquarters in New York.
