As part of the transformation of the program “One District – One Project” from the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus jointly with the Development Bank is implementing a new mechanism of support for investment projects of small and medium-sized enterprises “Regional Initiative”.
As of the beginning of June 2025, 88 applications have been received for inclusion in the pool of investment projects “Regional Initiative”, 39 of them have already been approved. These projects include food processing, wood processing, chemical production, machinery and equipment, medical products, construction materials and products for land improvement.
Applications with promising business ideas are still being accepted. You can propose your project on the portal “regionalinitiative.bel”. The project must meet the following criteria:
The implementation of investment projects under the “Regional Initiative” makes an important contribution to the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN Global Compact Network in Belarus and the Association of Belarusian Banks signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
The signed document opens new opportunities for the UN Global Compact Network and the banking community to work together in the field of sustainable development. The Memorandum will not only enhance the banking industry’s participation in ESG transformation, but also contribute to solving social and environmental problems.
The parties have envisioned many forms of cooperation, including the development of joint projects, knowledge sharing and events. Openness and transparency in the implementation of initiatives will be the fundamental principles of their joint activities.
The implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding will contribute to the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus with the participation of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the NGO “Belarusian Republican Youth Union”, and the Belarusian Innovation Fund holds the XVI Republican Contest of Innovation Projects.
The contest considers innovative projects of various stages of implementation with commercialization strategy, corresponding to the priority directions of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities. In 2025, innovative projects that have previously participated in the contest are allowed to be submitted.
The contest is held in the nominations “Best Innovation Project” and “Best Youth Innovation Project”. The number of organizations offering additional nominations will also increase. In 2024, there were 29 additional nominations from 18 organizations. In 2025, the number of organizations increased to 22.
The application form for participation in the Republican Contest of Innovation Projects must be filled out by August 1, 2025.
After the absentee selection of applications, the authors of the 40 best developments will take part in the final stage of project defense. In 2025, the approach to determining the winners of the competition changed. While previously it was envisaged that there would be one winner and the rest prize winners, now there will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree winners. In addition, the directions for the use of money allocated for the commercialization of projects have been supplemented.
To prepare the contest participants for the consideration and defense of innovative projects, training seminars will be held with the involvement of leading Belarusian specialists in innovation and venture activity, business planning.
The Republican Contest of Innovative Projects makes an important contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 9, 10, 11 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus implements the project on temporary employment of young people in social institutions “Time for Good Deeds” started in Belarus.
The project offers young people the opportunity to help the elderly and persons with disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to work in social institutions and rehabilitation workshops where they will organize events, teach computer literacy and other tasks.
In total, the project will cover 154 institutions across the country, including boarding houses, territorial social service centers, and will provide jobs for about 700 young people. It is open to 14–16-year-olds who will be involved in teaching seniors and people with disabilities, assisting at rental shops and participating in events. Young people aged 16 and over will also be able to try their hand at chaperoning, domestic help and work in workshops.
To take part in the “Time for Good Deeds” project, you should contact the employment service in your place of residence. They will help you choose a suitable institution. The project has already started and will last until the end of 2025. Given the social significance of the initiative, there are plans to extend or expand its format.
The “Time for Good Deeds” project will give participants a unique experience of working in the social sphere, provide an opportunity to decide on their future profession, as well as promote socialization of the elderly and people with disabilities, which will make an important contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 8, 10 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
The Belarusian Fund for Financial Support of Entrepreneurs is holding a competitive selection of investment projects and business projects of small (medium) enterprises to provide them with state financial support.
State financial support will be provided to small (medium-sized) businesses registered and operating in the territory of the Republic of Belarus on a competitive basis and in the implementation of investment projects by them. One of the mandatory conditions for the provision of state financial support is the creation of new jobs, as well as the compliance of an investment project or business project with the following areas:
Applications for participation in the contest are accepted until June 15, 2025.
The provision of state financial support to business entities contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 7, 8, 9, 12 and the other SDGs.
By the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus No. 264 dated May 15, 2025, the Concept of Engineering Education Development in the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2035 was approved.
The document is aimed at developing engineering education, improve the quality of engineering personnel training and ensure technological security of Belarus.
The Resolution envisages modernization of the educational environment, improvement of education content and educational technologies, enhancement of teaching efficiency, and popularization of the engineering profession. The document also provides for the creation of competence centers on the basis of universities, including the purchase of modern high-tech equipment, to ensure advanced training of specialists in engineering specialties, considering the needs of personnel requisitioning organizations.
Implementation of the Concept provisions will contribute to improving the efficiency of industrial practice, inclusion of disciplines in university curricula to meet the needs of enterprises of the real sector of the economy, as well as the expansion of training of engineering personnel in interdisciplinary specialties, including those applying technologies of artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital twins, quantum computing, involvement of personnel requisitioning organizations in the training of such specialists. This work will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8, 9 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
On May 29-30, 2025, in Minsk took place the II Republican Forum of women entrepreneurs “Energy and creation”, organized by Belarusian Union of Women.
The forum brought together more than 300 businesswomen from all over Belarus to talk with experts, exchange experiences, discuss current issues of women’s development, digitalization of business, combining career and motherhood.
The program of the forum – an exhibition of craftsmen and producers from all regions of the country, a plenary session and the work of thematic sections: ‘Business in numbers’, ‘Mom-entrepreneur’, ‘Belarus hospitable’, ‘Building communication and cooperation links of small businesses’.
During the plenary session, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, Yuriy Chebotar, stressed that the formation of a favorable environment for business development and his support remain among the priority areas of state policy. New tools to support SMEs have been introduced. Only in 2024 under the state program “Small and medium enterprises” supported 201 projects. The “Regional initiative” is actively developed, aimed at the implementation of investment projects in the regions. Already included more than 30 projects, 5 of them have a ‘female face’.
Yuri Chebotar also reported on the progress of preparation of the updated version of the Presidential Directive 4. It is aimed at simplifying regulatory conditions, easing control formats and creating equal ‘rules of the game’ for entrepreneurs of different sizes and industries. There are also several measures aimed at the development of innovation and start-ups. An important block of the document will be activities to reduce the control burden on business and review approaches to accountability for economic offences
Holding a forum of women entrepreneurs “Energy and creation” contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 5, 8, 10 and the other SDGs.
On May 23, 2025, in Minsk within the framework of the business forum “Industrial Complex of the Republic of Belarus: Export, Import Independence, Effective Management” the ceremony of honoring the winners of the III Republican contest “Industry Leaders of the Republic of Belarus – 2025” was held.
The contest “Industry Leaders of the Republic of Belarus” is an annual professional contest that has been held among industrial enterprises of Belarus since 2023. Its main goal is to accelerate the development of the industrial sector by encouraging enterprises to continuously search and improve.
The 2025 winners include both large state-owned enterprises as well as private companies and organizations. 46% of participants became winners in the group of nominations “Enterprise of the Year”, 34% – “Product of the Year”, 13% – “Project of the Year”, 6% – “Technique of the Year”. Grodno region is the leader with the number of winners – 20%. Minsk and Vitebsk region have 18% of winners each, and 15% – from Mogilev region.
A total of 82 awards were presented within the framework of the contest. 61 enterprises won them. The Grand Prix for significant contribution to the development of the country’s economy was awarded to Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant RUE.

The National Contest for the Award for Achievements in Industrial Technology and Management “Industry Leaders of the Republic of Belarus” is an important contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 9, 12 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee is holding a public discussion of the draft Regional Sustainable Development Strategy of Vitebsk region until 2040.
The Strategy reflects the potential, main problems of the region, priorities and practical steps to be taken to achieve sustainable development of Vitebsk region in the medium term (2025-2030) and long term (until 2040) perspective. The Strategy aims to strike a balance in addressing economic, social and environmental challenges through the most rational and efficient use of available resources and opportunities.
The key components of the developed Regional Strategy of Vitebsk region are defined as: development of human potential, concentration of resources in the most promising areas of economic activity and cooperation of all stakeholders to achieve the set goals.
