An open STEAM festival was held in Gomel

On June 16-17, 2023, in order to develop motivation among the younger generation for knowledge, self-education and creativity in the field of information technology, Francisk Skorina Gomel State University held the fifth open STEAM festival.

The festival was dedicated to the theme «The world of plants and animals that surrounds us». The participants got acquainted with the achievements of science in the field of biology, met with representatives of different areas of science, took part in master classes and competitive events on creativity, engineering, mathematics, the basics of modern programming in Scratch, Python, design and programming based on Lego Mindstorms EV3 platforms, Arduino.

The holding of the STEAM festival contributes to the popularization of STEM education, which contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8, 9 and other SDGs.

In order to develop and implement innovative projects and practices on active longevity and their informational coverage, the Republican contest «Active longevity of people 65+» has started among the territorial centers of social services for the population (TPSS). The competition is organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Belarus.

The competition is held in the following categories:

  • «Active and healthy lifestyle» – publications about active older people attending TCSC departments;
  • «Education, Employment and Creative Activity» – coverage of new ongoing practices (projects) on active longevity in the TCSP;
  • «Social services, care, care and support» – a series of information materials developed by TCSC specialists;
  • «Silver» volunteering – informational coverage of projects and practices for the participation of volunteers in social activities, initiatives on the principle of «an equal teaches an equal», etc.
  • «Union of Generations» – informational coverage of projects and practices for the development of intergenerational dialogue between the older generation and youth, etc.

The results of the contest will be summed up in December 2023.

Holding the republican contest «Active longevity of people 65+» will contribute to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 8, 10 and other SDGs.

On June 13, 2023, an off-site meeting of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives on Ecology, Environmental Management and the Chernobyl Disaster was held in Minsk on the topic «The Practice of Applying the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Waste Management». Sorting of waste and extraction of secondary resources».

The purpose of the event was to study issues related to the processing of waste, their use as secondary material resources, as well as to consider the main changes proposed by the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Waste Management». In particular, this draft law corrects the main terms and definitions in the field of waste management and clarifies the main principles and directions of state policy in this area: introduction of the priority of prevention, reduction of waste generation in relation to their use, neutralization and disposal, etc.

Efficient waste management makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.

On June 15, 2023, a meeting of the public advisory council for the development of entrepreneurship was held on the basis of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus. At the council meeting, the types of activities that will be allowed for individual entrepreneurs and individuals carrying out independent professional activities after the launch of the reform on the transformation of entrepreneurial activity were discussed.

Improving the conditions for doing business makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 8 and other SDGs.

On June 16, 2023, Minsk hosted a training on Core Indicators for Reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Belarus.

The participants of the training got acquainted with the reporting of enterprises in the field of sustainable development, the results of a case study in the countries of the Eurasian region, the structure of the Guidance on Core Indicators for Entity Reporting on Contribution Towards Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the principles of reporting in the field of sustainable development, as well as economic and environmental measuring GCI on the example of a case study in Belarus.

On August 22-24, 2023 RUE «National Exhibition Center «BelExpo» and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus are holding the II International Specialized Environmental Exhibition «ECOLOGY EXPO – 2023». The theme of the event in 2023 is «Green Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities for the Economy».

The event will become an effective communication platform for the exchange of experience in the field of innovative ideas and production and technological achievements in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources.

As part of the event, it is planned to hold plenary discussions, round tables, business meetings on the development of a circular economy, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation to them.

The thematic sections of the Exhibition will be: circular economy, waste management, environmental technologies in development, eco-transport, environmentally friendly building technologies, eco-environment, eco-food and eco-packaging, ecotourism, environmental research, environmental education and enlightenment.

The holding of the international specialized environmental exhibition «ECOLOGY EXPO – 2023» will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.

On June 8-9, 2023, the Bobruisk City Executive Committee hosted a seminar «Digital Development of Administrative-Territorial Units», dedicated to digital development, the introduction of smart city technologies, as well as the popularization of the introduction of digital technologies in the regions and raising the level of knowledge in the field of modern digital technologies.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Academy of Communications, the Regional Branch of the International Telecommunication Union.

The work of the seminar was organized in three sessions:

  • Essence and content of the «Smart city». Legal bases of state regulation of regional development»;
  • «Implementation of backbone and infrastructure measures for the development of a «smart city (region)»;
  • «Pilot and experimental projects of the «smart city (region)».

Today, as part of the Smart Cities of Belarus project, a large number of digital smart solutions are already being implemented. It is planned that by 2025 the Smart City platform will be implemented in 17 cities – Minsk, regional centers and 11 regional cities «80plus».

The implementation of the project «Smart Cities of Belarus» contributes to economic growth and improving the quality of life of citizens, which contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, 11 and other SDGs.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, together with the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, launched the development of a new project – the creation of a digital healthcare platform.

The digital platform will cover the entire field of information and communication technologies of the healthcare system and will serve as an incentive for the formation of new approaches to the digital transformation of the healthcare industry. A clear structure for the creation, implementation, maintenance and development of a centralized health information system will be built.

The digital health platform will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 9 and other SDGs.

On June 9, 2023, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus and JSC «JSSB Belarusbank» signed an Agreement on cooperation and interaction on stimulating entrepreneurial initiative in the regions of Belarus.

The agreement is aimed at identifying and overcoming existing barriers to the development of small and medium-sized businesses. Among the measures being implemented are the organization of information, educational and consulting events, support for business initiatives for the production of import-substituting products, and a number of others.

The development of entrepreneurial initiative makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 8 and other SDGs.

The Decree of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus adopted Decree №17 of October 6, 2022 «On the procedure for creating, developing and interacting state digital platforms and state information systems».

A legal act approved the Regulation, which defines the procedure for the creation, development and interaction of state digital platforms, state information systems of state bodies, as well as state and other organizations. The process of creating state digital platforms and state information systems includes business modeling, requirements management, design, implementation, testing, deployment.

The creation and development of state digital platforms and information systems will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 9 and other SDGs.
