The I Republican Forum of Young Friends of the SDGs was held in Minsk

On May 31, 2023, the I Republican Forum of Young Friends of the SDGs was held on the basis of the educational institution «Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank». The forum became the final stage of the Republican educational project «Lessons of Sustainable Development».

Within the framework of the forum, the SDG-marathon and the presentation of youth socially significant initiatives implemented by the participants of the republican contest «Young Friends of the Sustainable Development Goals» were held. 40 students of pedagogical classes became the finalists of the competition.

In total, in the 2022-2023 academic year, 252 students of specialized classes of pedagogical orientation from 43 institutions of general secondary education took part in the project «Lessons for Sustainable Development».

The implementation of the republican educational project «Lessons of Sustainable Development» contributes to the popularization of the ideas and values of sustainable development among children and youth.

On June 5, 2023, the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus hosted a meeting of a temporary interdepartmental working group to develop a Comprehensive Forecast of Scientific and Technological Progress of the Republic of Belarus for 2026–2030 and for the period up to 2045.

Based on the results of the discussion, the members of the working group compiled a list of 872 objects (technologies, goods, services) of forecasting that can become drivers of economic growth for the forecast period, as well as a list of their parameters, methodological approaches to the formation of complex projects of the future and priority areas of scientific, scientific and technical, innovative activity.

The development of a Comprehensive Forecast of Scientific and Technological Progress of the Republic of Belarus for 2026-2030 and for the period up to 2045 will contribute to the development of the country’s innovative activity, which will contribute to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 9 and other SDGs.

On June 6, 2023, a meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the joint international technical assistance project «Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs» was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

During the meeting, the issues of launching the project for the Republic of Belarus, the composition of the committee and the development of a working plan for the implementation of this project were considered.

The project of international technical assistance «Support to the Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalization and Localization of SDGs» provides for further nationalization and adaptation of the Sustainable Development Goals to the conditions of Belarus, expanding the partnership of civil society, government bodies with interested structures responsible for the implementation of the SDGs. At the moment, the work is focused on training, improving indicators for assessing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, and involving as many of our citizens as possible in the work to achieve them.

Every year on June 5, the Republic of Belarus celebrates the Day of Environmental Protection. On the eve of this holiday, environmental events were held throughout the country, the main purpose of which is to raise awareness of the population about the importance of environmental protection.

From May 25 to June 5, 2023, in all regions of the country, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus organized a program that included environmental competitions, volunteer events, open days, photo exhibitions, excursions, free consultations, meetings with students of the «green» schools and students.

Particular attention was paid to familiarizing children with the «rules of behavior in nature» and «eco-habits».

On May 25, 2023, an online meeting of the Ministers responsible for information and communication technologies of the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement was held on the topic «Development of ICT infrastructure in the context of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals». The meeting is a platform for the exchange of views on the objectives of the program of cooperation in the field of ICT and for further discussion of measures for the effective implementation of the Outcome Document of the Baku Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The experience of Belarus in the field of ICT is aimed at creating a comfortable and safe living environment for citizens, as well as reducing the digital divide between developed and developing countries. According to the data for 2022, the number of subscribers of wireless broadband access to the Internet amounted to more than 9 million, the total number of subscribers of cellular mobile telecommunications in the country is approaching 12 million, about 99% of the territory of Belarus is covered by cellular mobile telecommunications of the second and third generation, coverage of the population is ensured services of cellular mobile telecommunication of the fourth generation up to 98%, etc.

The spread of ICT and the development of information infrastructure makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 9 and other SDGs.

On May 30, 2023, a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus was held on the issue «On the results of the implementation of state programs in 2022 and assessing the effectiveness of their implementation in 2021-2022, tasks for industries and regions to achieve the planned results of state programs following the results of a five-year period».

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated July 25, 2016 №289 «On the procedure for the formation, financing, implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of the implementation of state programs», 29 state programs were evaluated according to more than 500 indicators. As a result of the evaluation, 3 state programs were recognized as highly effective, 11 – effective, 15 – medium effective.

About 250 billion rubles were allocated for the implementation of the tasks and activities of state programs for 2021-2022, of which 84 billion rubles are budgetary funds. The tasks were completed by more than 82%. More than 3,000 events were implemented in two years: 8.6 million square meters were built. m. of housing, roads were being repaired, buildings for more than 50 educational and healthcare institutions were put into operation, the energy intensity of GDP was reduced by 5.1% compared to 2021, etc.

On May 25, 2023, the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank hosted the final meeting of the participants of the Republican project «SDG Volunteer School».

During the event, the volunteers discussed the strategy of the activities of the SDG volunteer team of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank in the new academic year and presented the SDG Volunteer School initiatives developed within the framework of the project in the context of SDG 3 and SDG 10. Among them: training «Psychological Non-violence», a master class «Sign Language», as well as an online resource dedicated to the relationship between psychological health and human hormonal levels.

The activities of the Sustainable Development Goals Volunteer Squad contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

From May 23 to June 1, 2023, in order to counteract cybercrime, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus is holding a preventive campaign «Decade of Cybersecurity «Cyberchildren». The action includes holding events to improve the digital literacy of children and youth, informing them about ways to protect themselves from cyberbullying, grooming, sexting and safe behavior on the Internet.

One of such events was the forum «I’m in cybersecurity!», organized by JSC «ASB Belarusbank». In total, more than 100 children aged 8 to 17, as well as their parents, took part in the forum. As part of the forum, children learned how to most effectively secure themselves on the Web, why the digital footprint is very important in the modern world, what cyber threats a modern child may face, how to effectively ensure their safety on the Internet, where to turn for help, about the profession of a cybersecurity specialist and others. According to surveys, today, 40% of children communicated on the Internet with strangers. More than 30% have experienced bullying or bullying online, of which 9% are students in grades 5-7. 18% of students in grades 8-11 were subjected to violence by people they know through the Internet.

The development of digital literacy and raising awareness of children and youth in cybersecurity issues makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 9 and other SDGs.

The scientific and methodological institution «National Institute of Education» of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus has developed specialized video materials aimed at combating cybercrime.

On May 22-24, 2023, an ESD stream «SDGs – we will achieve together!» was organized on the basis of the educational institution «National Children’s Educational and Health Center «Zubrenok» for students of the IV open meeting of pedagogical classes.

The meeting participants got acquainted with the history of the formation of the concept of sustainable development, the content of the Sustainable Development Goals, discussed the position of the Republic of Belarus in the global ranking for achieving the SDGs.

On May 18, 2023, a scientific and practical seminar «Education for the sustainable development of the city of Bobruisk» was held on the basis of the Gymnasium №3 of Bobruisk.

The seminar program included a panel discussion «Organization of innovative education practices for sustainable development» and a master class «The specifics of the organization of the educational process in accordance with the requirements of the ESD methodology».

During the seminar, the participants discussed the role of educational practices in the interests of sustainable development, the features of their organization, considered the initiatives implemented in recent years by the Coordinating Center «Education for Sustainable Development» of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University. M. Tanka, and also got acquainted with the classification of key interdisciplinary competencies in the field of sustainable development and methodological techniques, the implementation of which within the framework of a training session can contribute to the formation of competencies in the field of sustainable development.

Conducting a scientific and practical seminar «Education for sustainable development of the city of Bobruisk» will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 10, 11 and other SDGs.
