In 2020, in the Kobrin region, bakery product manufacturers united into the industry association “Bread Recipes” (hereinafter referred to as the Association) to make the business of each of them more profitable. The impetus for cooperation was high competition in the industry and the likelihood of global chain retailers coming to Kobrin. The main goal of the Association is support and partnership with individual entrepreneurs and SMEs in the field of retail trade and baking production for the purpose of more efficient work, quality growth and sustainable development. The initiative was supported by nine local enterprises led by the private unitary enterprise “DobrynyaDar”, as well as two educational institutions – Kobrin State Polytechnic College and Kobrin State College of Service Sector.

    CONTENTS OF THE ACTIVITY

    The association “Bread Recipes” has developed an integrated approach to the development and support of small and medium-sized businesses in the production and trade of bakery and confectionery products.

    The strategic objectives of the Association “Bread Recipes” include:

    • Increasing the level of service and quality of products sold by members of the Association.
    • Increasing the level of competence of SMEs and human resources to create new jobs in trade and production of Association members.
    • Stimulating demand for products of Association members.
    • Increasing the level of service and quality of products sold by members of the Association.

    The implementation of these ambitious goals is carried out through a detailed «road map», including the production and expansion of the range of bakery and confectionery products,

    purchase of high-tech equipment, development of recipes and technological maps, training of specialists, improvement of production processes, storage and logistics, as well as expansion of the chain “Home Bakery” of bakeries using the franchising method.

    Opening a bakery franchise provides entrepreneurs with comprehensive benefits, starting with support in choosing the optimal location and technical equipment of the facility. Private unitary enterprise “DobrynyaDar” offers training for employees in product preparation methods and service standards, and also advises on purchasing, effective arrangement of equipment and optimization of business activities. In addition, design and finishing services are provided in accordance with branded design, legal support and training opportunities are provided through business training.

    Joining the Association “Bread Recipes” further expands your network of professional contacts and access to specialized resources, facilitating management and promoting business growth. For aspiring businessmen, there are four options for starting a bakery, which offer a return on investment period ranging from 12 to 36 months, with the initial capital not exceeding 15 thousand US dollars.

    KEY STEPS OF IMPLEMENTATION:

    • Uniting bakery product manufacturers into the Association “Bread Recipes” to strengthen the position of local producers in the market, increase their profitability and facilitate the exchange of experience.
    • Purchase of high-tech equipment to improve the production process, storage and logistics of bakery products.
    • Development of new recipes to expand the range and meet high standards of products.
    • Expanding the network of retail outlets and launching an online platform to increase product availability and expand the sales market.
    • Launch of an online store to simplify the process of purchasing baked goods, optimize inventory management and delivery logistics for manufacturers.
    • Organization of career guidance courses for youth and training of qualified personnel at the production base of the Association, including cooks, bakers, forwarders, sushi masters to stimulate the professional and social development of youth.

    RESULTS AND IMPACT OF THE INITIATIVE

    The initiative “Bread business – new opportunities” has become a landmark project for the Brest region. It demonstrates an exemplary model of collaboration between local bakery producers aimed at improving the quality of life of the population and stimulating the economic development of the region.

    The chain “Home Bakery” has achieved significant success in its development thanks to an integrated approach to improving product quality and expanding accessibility to a wide range of consumers. The result of these efforts was the opening of 17 new retail outlets, which allowed residents of urban centers such as Brest, Kobrin and Zhabinka, as well as more than a dozen rural settlements, to gain access to high-quality bakery products.

    The introduction of innovative approaches, including the launch of the franchise “Home Bakery” and the creation of an online store, has significantly simplified the process of purchasing products for customers, providing them with the opportunity to order fresh baked goods with home delivery. The development and implementation of 20 new recipes for bakery products contributed to updating the assortment and attracted new customers, expanding the chain’s customer base.

    The creation of 15 new jobs helped reduce unemployment in the region and provided the local population with a stable source of income.

    The implementation of the initiative improved the access of residents of the Brest region to high-quality and fresh food, contributed to increasing the level of food security and the implementation of the SDGs.
