62 energy sources using local fuels will be introduced in Belarus by 2025

26 April 2023

In the Republic of Belarus, special attention is paid to the issues of ensuring energy security and energy independence of the country by increasing the efficiency of the use of fuel and energy resources (FER) and replacing imported energy resources (natural gas, coal) with its own energy resources.

As part of the implementation of the state programs «Energy Saving» for 2010-2022, 327 energy sources were put into operation at local fuel and energy resources with a total thermal capacity of 1718,7 MW. The commissioning of another 62 energy sources at local fuel and energy resources with a total thermal capacity of 355,9 MW is scheduled for 2023-2025.

Currently, there are about 10,5 thousand energy sources in the republic with a total thermal capacity of 33,5 thousand MW, of which 5,6 thousand energy sources are based on local fuel and energy resources with a total thermal capacity of 6,9 thousand MW.

The implementation of projects for the construction of energy sources on local fuel and energy resources contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 11, 12 and other SDGs.
