Infrastructure for separate collection of municipal solid waste is being developed in Belarus

Every year, 4 million tons of solid municipal waste are generated in Belarus, from which more than 800 thousand tons of secondary material resources are extracted. It is expected that the level of recovery of secondary material resources will be 64% by 2025, and the level of use of municipal waste by 2035 will be 90%.

To achieve these goals, Belarus has created the necessary infrastructure for the separate collection and sorting of solid municipal waste and continues to develop it.

To date, within the framework of the implementation of the State Program “Comfortable Housing and Favorable Environment” for 2021-2025, 10 waste sorting plants have been built in the country, a regional complex for handling municipal solid waste in Volkovysk is under construction, as well as waste sorting plants in Gomel, Minsk and Bobruisk.

Effective waste management contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
