A number of bills related to environmental protection approved in Belarus

On June 30, 2023, a meeting of the tenth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the seventh convocation was held.

During the meeting, the members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly considered and approved three draft Laws in the field of environmental protection:

• «On Amending the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Environmental Protection» – aimed at regulating legal relations in the field of environmental protection, nature management, conservation and restoration of biological diversity, natural resources;
• «On Amending the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On the Protection of Atmospheric Air» – introduces new terms and their definitions, aims to regulate legal relations in the field of atmospheric air protection related to the establishment of the legal framework for the protection of atmospheric air, the preservation and restoration of its quality in order to ensure environmental safety;
• «On Amendments to Laws on State Ecological Expertise, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment», which amends the Water Code and the Law «On State Environmental Expertise, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment».

The adoption of these bills will contribute to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14, 15 and other SDGs.
