Belarus approved the Strategy in the field of intellectual property until 2030

The Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated November 24, 2021 №672 approved the Strategy in the field of intellectual property until 2030, which provides for the transformation of intellectual property into an effective tool for innovative and socio-cultural development of the Republic of Belarus.

The strategy defines the main directions for improving the national intellectual property system, the goals and objectives of state policy in this area, as well as the directions in which the Strategy will be implemented.

In addition, a list of measures has been developed to implement the Strategy for 2021–2023, which includes:

• legal monitoring of acts of legislation in the field of intellectual property;
• development of scientifically substantiated proposals for the systematization (codification) of national legislation in the field of intellectual property, including proposals for the formation of a draft concept of the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Intellectual Property (if a decision is made to develop it);
• preparation of proposals for improving legislation in the field of copyright and related rights, including the legal regulation of activities to collect remuneration for the reproduction of audiovisual works, works and performances embodied in phonograms, phonograms, as well as for the use of phonograms published for commercial purposes ;
• assistance in the development of the institution of mediation in the field of intellectual property;
• development of the educational system in the field of intellectual property.

The implementation of the Strategy will increase the efficiency of the intellectual property management system and transform the country’s research and creative potential into one of the key resources for economic growth, as well as make a significant contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by the Republic of Belarus 8, 9, 11 and other SDGs.
