The International Telecommunication Union has released the 2024 ICT Development Index (IDI), measuring progress towards universal and meaningful connections – creating for everyone the opportunity to access the Internet in optimal conditions at an affordable price anywhere and at any time.
In 2024, the IDI of Belarus increased from 86.9% to 88.5%. The country improved its position in seven out of nine indicators, while receiving the maximum value in two indicators.
According to the Index, in Belarus 89.5% of the population has access to the Internet and uses the Internet, coverage of 3G and 4G/LTE networks is 98.8%, 97% of the population has a mobile phone. The average mobile broadband Internet traffic per subscription is 143.5 GB, and fixed broadband traffic is 1,502.1 GB. Belarus shows low cost of access to mobile communications and broadband: prices for the mobile and voice basket are 1.6%, and for fixed broadband Internet – 0.7%.
Creating conditions for maximum coverage of the population with access to ICT contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 9, 11 and the other SDGs.
