22 September 2021
Significant work is being done around the world to reduce the harmful effects of mobile sources on the environment and public health.
Every year on 16-22 of September, the European Mobility Week is held, the main goal of which is to encourage residents of European cities and small towns to devote one week to sustainable mobility and to choose alternative modes of transportation to the car.
The theme for European Mobility Week 2021 is «Safety and health with sustainable mobility».
Thematic excursions, including the museum of urban passenger transport, plogging races that combine jogging with garbage collection, take place in Belarus throughout the week, and an eco-transport lovers club was opened.
The final day of the European Mobility Week is «Car-Free Day», the idea of which is to remind the population of the importance of environmental safety in a metropolis.
On September 22, drivers will be entitled to drive without payment in public transport upon presentation of a driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate. The action «Cycling to work!» will be held.
An electric run will take place with the participation of the heads and specialists of the Minsk City Executive Committee, administrations of the capital’s districts, organizations and departments, athletes, pop performers, journalists, organized by the «Minsk-Novosti» agency and «Radio-Minsk», and the festival «Cycle» will be organized in the park of the 60th anniversary of October.
It is worth noting that a modern person every year acquires an ever higher ecological awareness. It is obvious that the deterioration of the ecological situation threatens public health. Up to 99% of all aerosols or harmful gases in the air are products of internal combustion engines. The desire to reduce the burden on the environment is closely integrated into the lives of people at the personal and social levels and makes a huge contribution to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and others.
