Belarus plans to increase energy efficiency of the economy through renewable energy sources

31 May 2021

Belarus is implementing the State Program “Energy Saving”. It is planned for 2021-2025 and envisages achieving the share of renewable energy sources in gross consumption of fuel and energy resources at the level of 8% and reducing the energy intensity of GDP by 7% compared to 2020.

The State Program provides for the development of wind energy. Five potential sites for the installation of wind turbines have been identified. It is assumed that by 2025 all wind farms will generate about 650 MW of electricity.

It is also planned to use local fuel and energy resources ー biomass. For this purpose, some boilers in the housing and communal services system are converted to biofuel, which will reduce the consumption of imported energy resources in the country. These and other measures contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 “Inexpensive and clean energy”.

You can learn more about the possibilities of increasing energy efficiency of the economy through renewable energy sources in the video recording of the round table with representatives of the Ministry of Forestry, Department of Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
