Belarus presented a report on the implementation of the rights of people with disabilities and their social integration

On August 20-21, 2024, at the 31st session of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva, the Belarusian delegation presented the National Report on the implementation of the rights of people with disabilities and their social integration within the framework of the implementation of the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

During the active dialogue, the Republic of Belarus acquainted with the achievements in implementing the Convention and further prospects for increasing national efforts in realizing the rights of people with disabilities and their social integration.

The National Report was presented by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus Marina Artemenko. In her speech, she noted that Belarus is making serious efforts to implement the general principles and obligations of the Convention and has already achieved concrete results in integrating people with disabilities into society. Among the priorities of state policy are the creation of an accessible environment, improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, supporting families, ensuring equal opportunities for the exercise of rights and freedoms. The main strategic document for the country’s implementation of the provisions of the Convention is the National Action Plan, which contains specific measures to ensure decent living conditions for people with disabilities..

The interests of public associations of people with disabilities were represented by the Chairperson of the Central Board of the Public Association “Belarusian Society of the Deaf” Sergei Skuranovich. He emphasized that the state policy developed in the country regarding the implementation of the rights and legitimate interests of people with disabilities closely interacts with public associations and maximally satisfies the needs of people with disabilities in the areas of education, everyday life, health care, employment, creativity and sports.

Creating conditions for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens makes an important contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
