Representatives of the Republic of Belarus participated in the 69th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva in April 2021.

Within the framework of the main theme of the session — “Promotion of circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources” — The participants of the Session considered the set of measures taken by the governments and other stakeholders to promote the principles of circular economy and sustainable use of resources to increase welfare while reducing the burden on the environment. The challenges related to overcoming the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic were highlighted.

Belarus has supported the UNECE initiative to promote the circular economy. Belarusian voluntary commitments for the development of the circular economy have been submitted to the Secretariat of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

The circular economy as a model of development is defined as one of the priorities in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2035.

Implementation of the circular economy is aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production”, 13 “Combating Climate Change” and others.
