Belarus took part in the 61st session of the Commission for Social Development

From 6 to 15 February 2023, the 61st session of the Commission for Social Development is being held at the UN Headquarters in New York. Speaking at the session, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Irina Kostevich, noted that Belarus withstood the test of the COVID-19 pandemic without mass layoffs and a decrease in incomes of the population. In 2020, in order to minimize the impact of the pandemic, a number of systemic measures were taken in the country, in particular, the provision of additional payments up to the minimum wage, benefits and preferences in tax and property relations, and the use of new flexible forms of employment. The measures taken have had a positive effect.
The policy of the state is aimed at preventing unemployment, preserving jobs and is systemic, comprehensive and targeted. Particular attention is paid to support for long-term unemployed citizens, youth, people with disabilities. Currently, the Belarusian labor market is characterized by a low unemployment rate of 3.5%.
