From 6 to 17 March 2023, the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York. The general discussion will focus on the topic «Using innovation, technology and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls».
Speaking at the session, Irina Velichko, Head of the Main Department of Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, noted that Belarus is included in the group of countries with a high level of development, ranking 60th among 191 countries in terms of the human development index. In the Global Gender Gap Report 2022 (Global Gender Gap Report 2022), Belarus is ranked 36th among 146 countries. At the same time, according to the criterion of «economic participation and opportunities», the country took 4th place.
Belarus has achieved high positions in international rankings thanks to the measures taken to ensure gender equality. The National Council for Gender Policy functions on a permanent basis, and the National Action Plan for Ensuring Gender Equality is being implemented. These issues also remain on the agenda of the National Architecture to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Belarus.
