Belarus took part in the III International Conference “Water for Sustainable Development”

On June 10-13, 2024, the III High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” was held in Dushanbe within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process.

During the first plenary session, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Maslyak made a report on the domestic and international policy of Belarus in the field of water resources management.

During his speech, he emphasized that despite the sufficiency of water resources in Belarus, the country is carrying out targeted work to reduce water consumption, while ensuring economic growth. Issues of management, planning and economics of water management in the use of water resources in the context of climate change have become of particular importance in Belarus.

The minister also noted that the country’s internal “water” policy is being implemented within the framework of the National Strategy for Water Resources Management in the Conditions of Climate Change for the period until 2030. A key aspect of the country’s external “water” policy is the development of international cooperation in the field of integrated water management, as well as solving transboundary environmental problems with the assistance of the international community. The Head of the Department expressed confidence that integrated water resources management can be achieved exclusively through the joint efforts of the entire international community, taking into account the interests of each country.

Supplying the population with good quality water, while maintaining the hydrological, biological and chemical functions of ecosystems, adjusting human activities taking into account the capabilities of nature, contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 12, 14 and the other SDGs.
