Belarusian delegation at the Forum in Geneva presented information on progress towards achieving SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-being”, noting the significant role of the EAEU in promoting the UN 2030 Agenda

Within the framework of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the countries of the UNECE region, held on April 2-3, 2025 in Geneva (Switzerland), the Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, National SDGs Coordinator Sergei Khomenko, presented information on the progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 3 “Good Health and Well-being”.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus noted the systemic state support to healthcare. As of the current period, progress in achieving the targets and indicators in this field in the Republic of Belarus is about 70 percent of the UN 2030 level, which is one of the highest indicators not only in the UNECE region (56 countries), but also in the world.

Despite the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country shows the lowest maternal, infant and child mortality rates in the world. Belarus has fully achieved the goal of reducing the maternal mortality rate. The population’s accessibility to quality health services is approaching 100 percent.

Continuing its efforts, in the new National Sustainable Development Strategy until 2040 Belarus sets the target of strengthening the prevention of diseases throughout life, ensuring full and accessible coverage of the population with primary healthcare, and developing self-preservation behavior.

The leading role of the state in healthcare does not mean the absence of private medicine.

The Belarusian delegation also emphasized the important role of integration associations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is presented as a positive example, which is driving sustainable economic growth and is being effectively used by member states to achieve the SDGs. According to the announcement, Belarus encourages the development of the EAEU systemic dialog with the SCO, ASEAN, BRICS countries and other interested interstate associations.
