By 2025, 23 percent of social facilities will be fully accessible to people with disabilities

6 January 2022

The issues of creating an accessible environment for people with disabilities are an important component of the state policy of the Republic of Belarus in the social sphere.

Today, there are more than 30 thousand social facilities in the country, of which 18% are fully accessible for people with disabilities and 70% are equipped with elements of a barrier-free environment. The state program «Social Protection» for 2021–2025 defines actions to achieve the share of fully accessible social facilities at the level of 20% by the end of 2022, 23% – by the end of 2025. It is also planned to create an automated information system for accounting for the availability of social facilities — a virtual city guide, which provides the ability to build a route «without obstacles».

The creation of a barrier-free environment allows people with disabilities to integrate into the active life of society, which contributes to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 10, 11 and other SDGs.
