Campaign dedicated to the International Day of the Blind takes place in Belarus

November 13 is celebrated annually as International Day of the Blind. A number of events dedicated to this day are also held in Belarus.

More than 25 thousand people with visual impairments live in Belarus, of which 1.7 thousand are children.

In order to create favorable conditions for the life of people with visual impairments, work is being carried out in the country to create an accessible environment for them: speech informants, information plates and elevator buttons in Braille, mnemonic diagrams are installed, contrast marking of door panels and door handles is applied, tactile guide and warning tiles are laid, traffic lights with synchronous sound signals are mounted. Particular attention is paid to the social rehabilitation of people with visual impairments. In 146 territorial centers of social services for the population, social services are provided to people with visual impairments. To provide assistance in recovery and preparation for independent life, 162 departments providing day care are functioning in territorial centers. Accompanied accommodation service is available.

Creating conditions for the full participation of people with disabilities in society makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goal 10 and other SDGs.
