The topic of ensuring energy security and increasing energy independence through the use of local fuels, including renewable energy sources, diversifying the fuel and energy balance and reducing the energy intensity of GDP is very relevant for Belarus,
In the structure of energy sources in the country, almost 97% is occupied by the use of biomass, mainly wood fuel, and a little more than 3% – the energy of water, wind and solar. The actual power generating capacity of renewable energy installations has increased 14 times over the past 13 years and amounted to 630 MW at the beginning of 2023. Every year, the country saves almost 1 million tons of standard fuel due to energy saving measures.
The development of renewable energy sources makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 13 and other SDGs.
