The Decree of the Ministry of Architecture and Construction of the Republic of Belarus of November 13, 2020 № 81 “On the approval and enactment of construction standards SN 3.02.12-2020” in Belarus approved new construction standards on creation of infrastructure for physically impaired people. The physically impaired include the elderly, people with injuries of the musculoskeletal system, chronic diseases or injuries, pregnant women, children of preschool age, adults with children in arms or in wheelchairs.
The new construction standards establish requirements for the design of an accessible environment for residential buildings, public and industrial buildings, as well as in the repair and modernization of buildings. According to the new standards, the building must have a ramp or lifting device, the way to the elevator must be without steps, and light switches and electricity meters must be in accessible locations.
Creating an accessible environment is an important contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 10, Reducing Inequality, and 11, Resilient Cities and Human Settlements.
