Development of transport routes is planned in Belarus

In accordance with the State Program «Transport Complex» for 2021–2025, by 2030 in the Republic of Belarus it is planned to fully electrify the main cargo-intensive sections. This will make it possible to maximize the economic efficiency of transportation of goods and passengers on electric locomotive traction, as well as reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, at the moment the Belarusian sections of the international transport corridor from Brest to Smolensk and from Gomel to Vilnius are fully electrified. In the total operational length of railway tracks, the proportion of electrified sections reaches 23.2%, and after the completion of the electrification of the Svetlogorsk-on-Berezin – Kalinkovichi – Barbarov section, their share will increase to 25% and will amount to 1,369 km. The electrification of railways has already made it possible to reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere by 12.3% compared to 2015, or by 6,000 tons per year from the total volume of various emissions.

In addition, in Belarus until 2025, it is also planned to reconstruct and build 24 bridges and overpasses, 16 of which are priority bridge structures: a bridge over the Sozh River, a bridge over the Berezina, a bridge over the Western Bug, a bridge over the Neman and others.

The electrification of the railway network and the reconstruction of bridge structures contribute to the development of transport routes and infrastructure, which makes a significant contribution to the achievement of the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 9, 11, 13 and other SDGs.
