EEC presented the report on the EAEU integration contribution to the SDG achievement

The Eurasian Economic Commission has presented the report “On the Impact of the Eurasian Economic Integration on Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the EAEU Region”.

The report emphasizes that the key vectors of the integration development of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are largely consonant with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. It is noted that further deepening of integration is becoming a significant factor contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by the EAEU member states, and regional economic integration is considered as an effective tool for ensuring sustainable and high-quality economic growth.

The presented analysis of quantitative indicators demonstrates positive structural changes in the economies of the EAEU countries and an increase in the well-being of the population. It highlights the fact that the unemployment rate in the EAEU member states is consistently lower than in a number of developed countries and other integration associations. The report also shows a tendency towards a gradual convergence of the levels of economic development of the Member States.

The experience of the EAEU shows that the integration potential is most fully revealed in those SDGs, the achievement of which is directly related to economic interaction. Primarily this concerns the SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, the SDG 9 “Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure”, the SDG 10 “Reduce Inequality” and the SDG 17 “Partnership for the Goals”. It is in these areas that integration demonstrates the greatest contribution, forming the basis for long-term sustainable development.
