Green economy is a driver for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

A «green» transition to inclusive and sustainable growth is an important component of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and a strategic direction for cooperation between UN agencies and the Republic of Belarus. A key element of the «green» transition towards inclusive and sustainable growth is the green economy. The introduction of the principles of the green economy is focused on investment in renewable energy, energy efficient and resource-saving technologies, job creation, social and environmental benefits for people and the planet.

In 2021, the total budget of the United Nations to support the «green» and inclusive development of the country amounted to more than 8 million US dollars. The main areas of such support were:

  • mitigation and adaptation to climate change;
  • support for local development with an emphasis on business development;
  • improving regulatory and legal regulation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources.

The transition to a «green» economy makes a significant contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goals 8, 10, 12, 13, 15 and other SDGs.
