21 April 2022

On April 21, 2022, a thematic meeting of the Council on Sustainable Development was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program. The meeting was dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster.

During the meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development, the participants discussed the results and prospects for further cooperation in the field of regional development of Belarus.

Support for regional development is one of the key strategic directions in the framework of current and future cooperation between UNDP and Belarus. The contribution of international partners to solving practical problems of sustainable development contributes to the development of economic and human potential and is relevant both for Belarus as a whole and for the regions of the country, including the territories affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Over 30 years of cooperation, the Republic of Belarus has achieved significant results in the field of regional development, namely in support of entrepreneurship, healthcare, education and work with youth, conservation of natural resources and cultural heritage.

The results of the discussion within the Council for Sustainable Development will be used in the work of the government and UNDP to improve the mechanisms of bilateral partnership in order to promote the sustainable development of the regions of Belarus.
