In April 2025, the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies conducted a large-scale sociological study. About 1.5 thousand people were interviewed offline, and through the electronic platform merkavanne.bel – 30 thousand inhabitants of the country.
According to the results of the survey, the main priorities of Belarusians are improving the housing and communal services, roads, transport, water supply, as well as improving the status of workers, wages, increasing the number of benefits and social guarantees, especially for doctors, teachers and teachers, including for the formation of moral incentives.
Special attention was paid to the study of expectations of various social groups of the population, including youth and older people. So, for the population over 55 years of age, the availability of medicine, as well as palliative care, is a fundamental issue. The second important aspect is logistical and transport accessibility: the ability to get to the desired geographical location without assistance. The issue is more acutely perceived by residents of rural and small urban settlements. Also, older people (especially citizens of 70+) are concerned about the problem of involvement in social life and their relevance. Many people want to continue active communication and be useful to society.
For the middle age group, the key demand is material income, stable operation of enterprises, and labor relations. There are also expectations from better work in the housing and communal services sector.: I am interested in parking lots, house parking lots, cleaning of entrances. If we talk about residents of rural settlements and small towns, then there is a request for infrastructure development: for sports, recreation with children, and family.
As for young people, there are two groups of different generations that differ from each other: 15-19 years old and 20-30 years old. The main goal of the first group is freedom and personal time. The second group’s main demand is self—realization and recognition, which are accompanied by a high level of income.
The results of the survey will be used in the preparation of the concept of the socio-economic development program for 2026-2030.
