More than 820 thousand tons of SMR were collected in Belarus

In 2023, 822.9 thousand tons of secondary material resources (SMR) were collected in Belarus: paper and cardboard, glass, plastics, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as used tires and used oils. In terms of each resident of the republic, there are about 89 kg of SMR.

The collected SMRs include:

  • paper and cardboard waste amounts to 418.3 thousand tons;
  • glass waste – 185.9 thousand tons;
  • polymer waste – 113.5 thousand tons;
  • used tires – 60.9 thousand tons;
  • used oils – 21.3 thousand tons;
  • waste electrical and electronic equipment – 23 thousand tons.

The effective use of SMR makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.
