National coordinator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko sent a statement to the UN General Assembly on the fact of economic and political pressure on Belarus. The statement noted that due to the targeted campaign of political and economic pressure on the Republic of Belarus launched by the EU countries and the United States, the high results achieved in the country’s sustainable development were under threat. The National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals emphasized that the Republic of Belarus takes a responsible approach to fulfilling its international obligations to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The country has formed a national architecture for managing the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Its state activities involve representatives of civil society, government bodies, the parliamentary community and the business community. The joint efforts of society and the state to achieve the SDGs have provided significant progress. In the human development index, our republic ranks 53rd in the category of countries with a very high level of human development; in the independent rating of the achievement of the SDGs, Belarus ranks 24th out of 165 states.
According to the National Coordinator, the unilateral coercive measures taken by the EU countries and the USA against Belarus contradict a number of international obligations, run counter to the provisions of the United Nations Charter and significantly impair the right to a decent standard of living for millions of people.
