Belarus has created the necessary infrastructure for the separate collection of municipal solid waste (MSW) and continues to develop it. Today, more than 330 thousand containers for separate waste collection have been installed in the country – 96% of the population has the ability to sort waste. Special routes of garbage trucks are also organized to collect secondary material resources. New facilities for the sorting and use of MSW are being built. Facilities in Baranovichi, Orsha and Bobruisk will be completed in 2023. The plans include the design and construction of a large complex for the sorting and use of MSW in Minsk.
At the end of 2022, the level of MSW use in Belarus amounted to 31.1%. This figure is expected to be 32% by the end of 2023. Almost 800 thousand tons of secondary material resources are collected in the country.
Efficient waste management contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13 and other SDGs.
