Specially protected natural areas of the Republic of Belarus are an important resource for the development of ecological tourism. As of January 1, 2021, there are 1,307 specially protected natural areas in Belarus. Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, 4 national parks, 99 nature reserves of republican significance, as well as a number of specially protected natural areas of local significance.
In the Republic of Belarus, there are 29 state environmental institutions that manage specially protected natural areas, one of the tasks of which is to develop ecological tourism by conducting excursions through unique natural areas, creating ecological paths, “green” routes. Also, active environmental education of the population is being carried out. At present, 16 visit centers and 4 environmental education classes have been created in the country, which promote respect for nature and environmental protection, as well as increase the overall level of environmental literacy and self-awareness.
The creation of infrastructure for the development of tourism in specially protected natural areas is carried out within the framework of the state program “Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for 2021-2025” and with the support of international projects.
Contribution to the development of ecotourism and the preservation of the natural wealth of Belarus contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 15.
