Prospects of electric transport development in Belarus

One of the targets of SDG 11 “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” is to ensure that by 2030, safe, affordable, accessible and environmentally sustainable transportation systems will be available. Electric transport meets these requirements.

Belarus is currently working on a State Program for Electric Transport Development for 2021-2025. It provides for the organization and production of electric transport and electric vehicles, scientific research, development of prototypes, preparation of normative and technical acts on the use of electric transport and expansion of the charging stations network.

Parallel to the elaboration of the program on development of electric transport, the State program on development of transport complex for 2021-2025 is being developed, which includes measures on further electrification of transport. According to the program, by the end of 2025, the share of electrified vehicles performing city passenger transportation in regular traffic should increase to 30%.

Along with the development of policy documents in the field of electric transport, practical steps are also taken in Belarus. The Minsk Automobile Plant has developed the first electric truck in the country’s history to work in urban conditions. It is silent, environmentally friendly and economical. Creating electric trucks may become one of the promising directions of the automobile holding development until 2030.
