Round table on climate change was held in Minsk

On May 22, 2024, a round table “Towards the Future: Intensifying Climate Action” and a youth exhibition of green solutions, organized by the UN in Belarus, were held in Minsk.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries, the private sector, the scientific community, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, the diplomatic corps, UN agencies in Belarus, SDG Youth Ambassadors.

During an open discussion, participants exchanged experiences and shared their strategic plans for adaptation and mitigation of climate change, and also discussed directions for further multilateral cooperation in the fight against climate change. During the event, the results of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the key priorities of the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held on November 11-22, 2024 in Azerbaijan, were also presented.

As part of the Paris Agreement, the Republic of Belarus initially committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Now, the country committed to reducing emissions by 40%. These measures will require significant effort and participation from all sectors of the economy and society.

Mitigating the consequences of climate change, solving environmental problems, and implementing the provisions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change makes an important contribution to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of the Sustainable Development Goal 13 and the other SDGs.
