European Mobility Week takes place annually from 16 to 22 September. The mobility week ends with World Car Free Day, which this year is celebrated under the slogan «Save Energy». This motto draws public attention to pollutant emissions from mobile sources, as well as how much resources can be saved through sustainable urban mobility.
On this day, free travel for drivers will be provided in certain regions of Belarus. This action will be supported by Minsk, Soligorsk, Grodno, Volkovysk, Voronovo, Slonim, Gomel, Baranovichi, Pinsk and 8 other districts of Belarus. On World Car Free Day, bicycles and scooters will be rented, bike rides, quests, master classes, and competitions will be organized.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, holding World Car Free Day can save 100–200 tons of carbon emissions per year.
Reducing air emissions makes an important contribution to the Republic of Belarus achieving Sustainable Development Goals 7, 12, 13 and other SDGs.
