State support for start-ups will be provided in Belarus

23 December 2021

According to the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, from 2012 to 2020, about 3.3 thousand start-up events took place in the country, in which about 155 thousand people took part. More than 10.3 thousand projects were considered, of which 128 were financed by private business.

Support for start-ups is an important element of government entrepreneurship policy. The state program «Small and Medium Enterprises» for 2021-2025 includes activities aimed at developing the start-up movement in the Republic of Belarus. In particular, it is envisaged to provide partial compensation for the costs of the organizers of start-up events. For this, a draft Regulation on the conditions and procedure for providing state financial support to organizers of start-up events has been developed. In January 2022, an opening meeting will be held to discuss it and approve activities to build the capacity of the startup movement support.

In addition, in order to establish a partnership in support of startups, on October 29, 2021, Belagroprombank, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, signed an Agreement on cooperation and interaction for the development and support of the start-up movement and small innovative entrepreneurship.

State support for start-up events contributes to the achievement by the Republic of Belarus of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, 11 and others.
