Tactile maps for children with visual disabilities were developed by Belkartografia

In today’s world where access to information plays a key role, relief-graphic aids are becoming an important tool to ensure inclusion and equal opportunities for people with visual disabilities. Such aids include tactile maps, models, charts, and other visual materials that help improve understanding of spatial and geographic objects, as well as abstract concepts. Educational institutions need them first of all, as they play an important role in education and social adaptation of blind and visually impaired citizens.

Belkartografia RUE, the leading enterprise in Belarus for production of the whole list of maps, atlases, educational aids, regularly develops new directions of work on creation of relief-graphic aids. A number of experimental works have already been created. These include a tactile map “Republic of Belarus. Physical Map” at a scale of 1:1,500,000, a scheme “Planets of the Solar System”, an atlas for the 4th grade ”Man and the world. My Homeland Belarus”.

All the developed editions were adapted in the general education school “Special General Education School № 188 for children with visual impairments”, receiving a positive assessment.

Creating conditions for the education of children with visual disabilities makes an important contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 4, 10 and the other SDGs by the Republic of Belarus.
